Please for my sanity, fire Marty Wilford into the f***ing sun. And if the next guy can’t get basic defensive awareness out of Power, fire Power into the sun the year after.
you say "Marty Wilford" and I hear "Wilford Brimley" and "diabeetis" and I'm laughing and laughing...
sorry. I'll see myself out.
oh yeah. OP sucks at D.
I tried to warn folks to temper their expectationsPower nicks - OP became Opie became Dopey became D'oh P

I know everyone is rightfully frustrated with him, but him taking the next step is one of the clearest ways this team take a step forward.
Maybe with getting married this summer, someone will help him find his balls.
Definitely worth reading. Thanks.![]()
The challenges of being a young NHL defenseman: Chris Pronger, more weigh in on Owen Power
How much time should it take for a defenseman with Power's pedigree to hit his stride in the NHL?www.nytimes.com
Good read with some interesting quotes by Pronger about Power
He needs to get anti anger management.
I think we are being way too impatient with him. For a franchise that had Brian Campbell we need to remember it takes most dmen years to make their mark and Power has had zero help to being put into a position to succeed. Also, when we consider his potential trade value in proposals most do not give him the proper respect, his value has not diminished as a recent 1st overall pick (albeit in a weak draft ). He is 22, has a 40 point season under his belt and 3 straight 33+ ones. It took Hedman five full seasons and the age of 23 before he ever hit 33 points. And he was 26 when he got his 3rd while Power has the 3 at the age Hedman had ZERO.
Power was and is not a prospect on Hedman’s level. Just because Power is a massive kid, doesn’t mean we should expect him to play like or have his potential. They are two completely different type of players that attack the game differently. Power is heavily favored for his offensive game while his defensive game, especially without the puck, is very flawed and lacking. It’s just who he is. He hasn’t been asked to do much on the defensive side of the puck in lower levels through college. The best thing he can do is use his offense as his defense.I think we are being way too impatient with him. His contract probably ruined his progression. Adams is an idiot who doesn't make young players earn it. Adams just hands it to them. The player is frustrating, but his contract is f***ing stupid.
Lots of teams would love to get Byram. Defense is in high demand with short supply. We have Byram, JJ and #1….use one, or a combo to bring an actual veteran, steady defenseman to play with Power. We do not need a #1 or #2 defenseman to be that guy, just a steady guy who is a pro and can play defense.
It seems so simple….
Do this one thing and all of a sudden our complete D transforms to having balanced pairs….shocking this hasn’t been done in the last two years….
Came here looking for updates after not seeing anything in the injury thread.Any update on his LBI? Can’t wait to see his summer of not gaining any leg strength and what that’ll do for him next year with his lack of ignition and passivity in his own zone.
