I hadn't seen this yet. Solid mechanics - and makes it look easy.

It better explains the point I was trying to make earlier in the thread about how Power will pinch, forecheck, and then recover all so easily. There is that "oh hey, who is that big winger making that play" moment before realizing it is Power on occasion and then he's back in position on defense so effortlessly because of how he skates and knows where to go.

He is deceptively agile and sneaky. Think I'll view it again

Interesting to see him being more of a shutdown guy this weekend against PSU. He has an assist yesterday and no points tonight, both wins.

Two primaries, five blocked shots, and a casual +3. It also seemed like play was a bit more even when he was on the ice than when the Hughes or Edwards pairs were back on D, but that's more gut not actually counting shots for and against.

From 32 Thoughts.

22. 2021 first-overall draft pick Owen Power with another big leap on Tuesday, named to Team Canada for the Olympics. Buffalo GM Kevyn Adams, asked Tuesday about Power joining the Sabres after Michigan's season, said, “We've had those conversations and we're getting excited for sure.” Put it this way: it would be a surprise if it didn’t happen.

Any insight on Power of late from those who have been following closer than me? From the stats sheets it seems his dominant scoring pace has really slowed and he was out for one of the badger games. Nursing an injury??

Shane Doan Q&A: Team Canada's Olympic GM on Owen Power, Eric Staal and what we can expect from the team

How did you want to make this roster? Because you do have a nice mix. You get an older guy, like an Eric Staal, but you’re working in the Owen Powers and you’re working in Mason McTavish. Did you have an idea going in as a group that (you) were going to bring X number of young kids, X number of guys in the middle and maybe a couple of veteran guys?

I think you have an idea in your head of what you want, but it kind of ebbs and flows throughout the whole process. Obviously, we’re ecstatic about the way it turned out, with having the opportunity to have a guy like Eric Staal come. Owen Power is a special talent, and Mason McTavish is a guy that we’re all gonna watch for a long, long time. But to have some of those veteran guys — we have Max Noreau, who played in the last Olympics in 2018. We have a couple other guys that played in the 2018 Olympics, as well. We were just trying to make sure that we had a good mix of everybody.
But the whole point was to win. It wasn’t like we had this plan of what we want to do and (what) we’re gonna build — our goal is to pick the best players that we could find and hope that they are the guys that are gonna bring us home gold.

What do you think we’re gonna see from Owen Power in this tournament?

I’m a huge Owen Power fan. I’ve known him for three or four years now. He’s an incredible talent. I don’t think people really understand how good he is. What he did for us at the world championships, this last one in Latvia, he was incredible. Nothing has really been handed to him. He’s had to go out and work for it. He wasn’t one of the guys that was chosen early on — that this guy’s predestined as a great player. He has kind of come on to the scene in the last year and a half, two years … for some. I’ve been a huge fan for the last four years. I’m just saying. But I think he’s gonna be great for us. He’s got some guys around him, some veteran guys on the blue line. Our blue line’s a veteran group for the most part, and that was important. And he’s gonna have the opportunity to be around those guys, and it’ll be good.

Matches up with the eyeballs - he's very good at moving the puck and doing things offensively but he is not yet a defensive stalwart in the sense of defending. Also note, he carries the puck out and carries the puck in - he is not usually passing the puck over distance in transition with Michigan which is part of the roster composition and part of how well he moves with the puck.

For people who think he's going to solve all their d-zone play... it's going to be the usual Sabre fan let-down.

Yes, and he's obviously way too young to be doing that at the NHL level, but for a player of his size it's not great to see him get beaten off the puck that frequently in college games. Maybe I'm being unfair.

Maybe this is just my own issue; I don't like the NCAA as a development stream for high-end defensemen.
