McCarron too, they were pretty public about it too. Coming off an excellent season in Oshawa where he played shut down 2C minutes, it killed all his momentum dead.Leblanc

Since draft day I’ve always used ROR as the ceiling comparable. The interview was not fluff not even close.
Vincent went into detail why he wasn't ready to put a limit on this player's ceiling.
Owen Beck has been under estimated at every level.
He also talked about Beck being a top six worthy forward given his versatility.
Marty St Louis "He's got great assets"
Marty isn't slotting him in where he did otherwise.
I'll stick to the professional assessments for now.
I realize he doesn't have the sexy game many people love.
What he does have is a winner's game played with a winning attitude.
These are the guys who get the icetime.
I look at Danault. Average size, skated pretty well, okay shot, could make and receive simple passes, played north-south, good on face-offs, made good reads , great defensively and had non stop motor. An almost twenty goal 50 plus points and shut down guy.
Beck is averaged size, skates well, plays north-south, he can make and receive simple passes, history of being very good on face-offs and just over 50% in the few taken in NHL , always spoken of as being in the right place ( yeah he gaffed in the game ), seems responsible defensively and supposedly a great work ethic and motor. Havent seen enough of his shot but he has always done pretty well so Im guessing its fine.
This guy does not have elite skills and will never wow you with moves. But I am seeing a potentially better Danault offensively as he may have a bit better skill set. I think he is also more physical which is good for cycling the puck. So maybe a meat and potatoes two way guy who can perhaps hit 20-25 goals and 55 points a season as a ceiling. Ideally your 2C is better skilled and can be a reliable 30 goal 70 point guy.
Now if we are able to handle the Cap really well, maybe we have Beck as a 2C/3C on the 3rd line with some decent skill so we make up for no superstar C with depth.
Yeah I mean I just think he is an NHLer and a C at that, and if he is better than a 4C okay fine , a 3C great thats fantastic , anything better its a grand slam.If Beck can become Danault I'll be ecstatic. But that's a high bar. So we'll see...
He seems a little shorter and smaller than Danault to me. He'll definitely have to get stronger, which with his work ethic I pretty much take for granted that he will. He's been getting man handled recently.
I like Beck but he looks tiny out there compared Danault. Watching him these last few games he's much smaller than I thought.I look at Danault. They are actually almost the same size. How tiny did Danualt look at 21 yrs of age?I like Beck but he looks tiny out there compared Danault. Watching him these last few games he's much smaller than I thought.
Had a few hat tricks and was close to a ppg in 20ish games. People were calling him a stud. Not gonna buy into that revisionist crap that he was a horrible pick.McCarron too, they were pretty public about it too. I believe PD was 170 lbs at the draft.I like Beck but he looks tiny out there compared Danault. Watching him these last few games he's much smaller than I thought.
According to the NHL he's an inch taller than Nick Suzuki lolol.I believe PD was 170 lbs at the draft.
Beck 190.
Now both ~ 200lbs.
Beck will get bigger. He’s solid on his skates. Powerful stride.
Yes, that fits with the Habs training camp roster. (Maybe 1” 1/4, but close enough)According to the NHL he's an inch taller than Nick Suzuki lolol.
I believe none of those numbersYes, that fits with the Habs training camp roster. (Maybe 1” 1/4, but close enough)
We will be in trouble if Beck is our 2c for the whole season. It can work for a couple of games. But the whole season? nope.I'd rather give Beck a chance to see what he's got next year if we can't find an adequate 2C in the offseason. If he isn't effective there, so be it. Hage should be making the jump after next year, anyways.
What choice do we have if we can't find an outside solution next year?We will be in trouble if Beck is our 2c for the whole season. It can work for a couple of games. But the whole season? nope.
good question. Trade one of our pick for a 2c or try to sign a UFA. I don't see any solution. Any player drafted in this year draft would take 1-3 years to play in the NHL.What choice do we have if we can't find an outside solution next year?
