Beck can be the 2C next year with Demidov and Laine in a more sheltered role if we keep Evans. While it is clear Beck has some good upside, let's not throw him to the wolves by forcing him to shoulder too much defensive responsibilities too early.
Beck already has the defensive responsibilities bred into him.
There is nothing forced about it that is how he plays the game.
Watching the game last night it was easy to see he was "shouldering" the defensive consciousness on that line.
The coach seemed to love it.

I'd love it if he could work on technique with a puck handling Guru this off season because he has the talent to be better in that area IMO.
I’ve mentioned this before but, I know a skills coach he’s been working with. Haven’t seen him in a year, but at that time Beck was mainly focused on improving his stick handling, particularly his backhand.

When I see a nice play off his backhand I’m like:

Beck tonight and during his most recent call up has confirmed that he can skate and play at the NHL level. He will progress faster playing against superior competition he will be facing at the NHL level. I can’t see them sending him back to Laval.
This is why I was telling you to give it a few more games (after that 4 games in 5 nights stint).

For one game. Do you think he is ready to do that at the NHL level for 82 games?

I love the enthusiasm people are bringing, but yeah, it was one game where he played less than 12 minutes. He'll have plenty of opportunities to earn a roster spot moving forward, there's no need to go crazy.

Who f*ckin cares about Laval playoffs, does absolutely nothing for the Habs. Zero correlation AHL playoffs drive NHL success

The focus should remain in playing high intensity / meaningful March & April NHL games

I think they envision him as a utility guy who can play several roles as required. I love these types of versatile players.

He will have his ups and downs as guys his age typically do, but I like his prospects of figuring it out.

I have watched this kid closely since he was drafted and have posted about him on numerous occasions including reviewing his performances after most Laval games.

When interested, Beck dominates most shifts in the AHL with his explosive speed, play making and shooting ability. He also plays a physical game.

Against a quick Hurricane team, Beck more than held his own and on two occasions beat an opposing defenceman wide. He made several good passes, showed his excellent shot off the rush and read the play well (both offensively and defensively). Above all, he was noticeable playing against NHL talent.

The one thing that I was concerned about in watching Beck over the years was his stamina. Last night, I saw no depreciable drop-off in Beck’s level of play / energy towards the end of his shifts.

While playing any level of professional hockey will be of some benefit to a young player, I think Beck’s level of development has reached such an advanced stage that he will gain much more playing against superior players at the NHL level than playing against lesser players in the AHL.

Beck is here to stay. Or at least he should be.

Beck is not ready to play as a 2C next season with Demidov and Laine. The problem is that neither is Dach.
The chances of Beck being a good, point producing, 2C in the NHL are pretty slim. It's not a question of "next year".

We should have kept Monahan.

Monahan is a glass body. It would have been idiotic to sign him for 5 years. Just be thankful he played one full season and allowed HuGo to get a 1st for him.

That outcome was a good example of being able to eat your cake and having it too.

Monahan wanted to go play with his best friend, so wasn't happening regardless.
