I think a guy to look at this off-season with Edmonton's cap crunch is Evander Kane, he has 1 year left.

Do you think Bennett or Tkachuk mess with Kane? He would absolutely feed them if they tried.

I don't give Tre a full pass here. He mortgaged the future for players who were never going to move the needle. Leafs don't pick in the first round til 2027. I get the Carlo trade but not a soul can tell me a 4th liner costs what Laughton did. Just seems like it's two steps forward and two steps back with him. Makes a good move. Follows it up with a bad one.

Things aren’t as bad as many think they are. Now that I’ve had a couple days to process. They had 108 points this season. Have the best goaltending tandem they’ve had in decades

Have a legit top 6 defense that looked incredible in game 6

Forwards lack depth and hopefully that can be fixed this summer

The big problem has been scoring in the playoffs and it’s clear it still is - games 4-7 the goals dried up

They need to stop trading draft picks and hopefully they get lucky picking up some unsigned guys

The team needs to look at how Florida plays and try to beat them at their own game. Florida has found the winning formula

Anyone that won’t buy into the team formula is moved. Nylander needs to either start playing both ends of the ice or he’s out

I don't know what the general opinion of signing Bennett is, I used to like the guy, I've seen enough of his act now and don't want that assclown anywhere near this team.

No I don’t think that’s true. There was a decent amount of offence and chances from the D in the playoffs. Sure it could be better. But if the forwards contributed even at their regular season pace we’d be in the 3rd round right now

This Toronto roster as constructed will never beat Florida at it's own game though.

Because sadly, some players are just not built that way. Or in the case of some of these guys, they simply won't play that way.

Too bad, because the Leafs have seen first-hand what happens when a highly skilled but underperforming team changes their approach adds a bit of nasty to their game. The Bolts went from a first round sweep to Cup champions a year later. Florida, after Maurice literally tore a strip off them right there on the bench in Toronto, went from an afterthought to a Cup final.

Seeing the success those teams had you'd think the Leafs leaders would figure it out, yet these players simply refuse to change their approach. As pointed out, Marner is the same player he was 9 years ago, and the same in game 1 as game 57 and game 7 of a playoff series.

Just stubbornly/arrogantly sticks to what he believes works and will not step up or change his approach. Same with AM, JT and Willie. So that's why I say that with this roster as constructed what you suggest will never happen. Wish it would though.

All of it. He got the job principally because he knows Tannebaum, who isn't even there now. The fact that they got the guy on the bad side of the Tkachuk deal is about as Leafy as you could hope for.

But particularly his vision that manifested with the team this season.

I think the defence is a stodgy mess and there's not much interesting in the forward ranks. Also, I have issues with Berube, who's his guy.

Even things like signing two monopedal nordic defenders Iwo summers in a row are bush league levels of negligence.

He signed Tanev which was a very good and Stolarz which is okay, but then IMO, laid an egg with his deadline deals. The Domi and Liljegren re-signings were also bad.

But possibly more than anything, it's about a clean cultural break from Shanahan and there's likely fewer than five people I'd keep in that front office.

I'm coming around to thinking that's what Paul Maurice, Brad Marchand and Matthew Tkachuk's comments about the media and market were about. Beat you on the scoreboard, rough you up in the corners, concuss your goaltender and do serious damage to an Atlantic Division foe among the NHLPA.

Inviting Stolarz to put an all-timer curse on them and that franchise ends up back in the swamp where they belong.

hayes said all he had to do was put a hammer on that and say its nonsense. theres no pressure, its just hockey. yes we have failed here and we all need to be better including myself
