We´ve seen it before, Ovechkin letting his stick do the dirty work for him!

Ovi was fined for spearing someone in the nuts a while back, but that does not have any bearing on this situation right?

Ovechkin frustrated with his and the Caps play running around chasing a big hit and then taking it out on Desharnais at the intermission.

Full sequence:

"Alexander Ovechkin facing Suspension After Nasty Crosscheck To The Face

As the first period concluded, Ovechkin's cross-check on Desharnais introduced a palpable tension. Speculation is now swirling that the NHL Player Safety could scrutinize the play, potentially resulting in consequences for Ovechkin—ranging from a fine to a suspension."

prob a fine - he was clearly trying to give him a shot in the chest, you can tell by his immediate reaction. ovi has had a lot of plays that were on the edge but they guy isn't a dirty player, he just plays that hard. don't know what they called in game but prob deserved a major just based on result...def doesn't deserve anything beyond that game though other than a fine.

We’re really grasping at straws here. And I’m no Caps fan.

So it should be alright for players to just crosscheck someone in the teeth after the whistle? There is a difference between pushing someone and delivering a full on cross check to the face! That line were clearly crossed in this instance.

A 2 minute minor for cross checking is for a hockey play if you trying to clear a forward in front of the goal and in that context use a cross check on the body of said player. Thats 2 minutes.

If you go to a player at the intermission and crosschecks directly them in the face, that should clearly be punished harder than an in game cross check to the body. It was at least a 5 minute major for cross checking + match penalty.

If you want to punch someone in the face, use your glove and not your stick as a weapon!

The defense of stick related violence is ramping up on the forum it seems!

Its not the first time Ovechkin is using his stick like a melee weapon, this is just a few instances, the dude clearly cant control himself or his stick when he is angry!

Half of the people on this board wanted Trouba charged with attempted murder for an unintentional slash, but Ovi INTENTIONALLY crosschecks a guy in the mouth and its all good.
FWIW, it should have been a penalty, maybe a major if the guy was bleeding. Also, a fine would be appropriate so the NHL can pretend to dole out punishment equally.
