Ovechkin Milestone Thread - Countdown to 894

Scatter plot of where his goals have come from:
Nice plot, though it would be more visually striking in comparison to Gretz (probably does not exists), Matthews and McD (probably most close-range).

Also wonder if all those behind blue line are empty netters or did he score some on goalie?

Seems like in reality OV has two offices :)

I wonder why two 65 goals dots for OV, is it AI generated?
There does seem to be a few errors in chart:

1 - as you point out, shows 2 - 65 goal seasons, but it's missing his 56 goal season....looks like they inverted the 5 and 6 and turned that one into a 65 goal season....the hits line up properly for that one

2 - missing his 24 goal season....though chart seems to start at 30 goals

3 - missing his 31, 32 and 32 goal seasons

4 - chart shows 4 - 50 goal seasons but he only had 3 and one of those 3 had 155 hits, which doesn't line up with any of the 4 - 50 goal seasons

5 - missing 51 goal season.

lucky 21 to go

All the talk that the Capitals were only playing to get Ovechkin goals seems very silly at this point. They seem to be one of the most resolute teams in the League.

They seem to always be poised to get a point or two out of their games. Even when they don't play well, it hardly ever seems they can't walk away without a point or two.

Ovechkin seems to try to do whatever he can to help the team win. He made a couple of good defensive plays when the Preds had their net empty, the second of which enabled him to score an empty netter and move closer to the goals record.

Could not possibly disagree with this harder. Some serious old man yells at cloud BS. Old people are dumb and usually bitter at young people for literally no reason other than they're cranky bastards in physical and cognitive decline.
Once again nuance gets thrown out the window. Let's run to the extremes, wouldn't it be terrible to see shades of gray. Some older folks have great knowledge, experience, and wisdom to pass down. Some are closed minded dipshits. Some young people are open to learn from a mentor, and others are dumbasses that have to make every mistake themselves to learn a damn thing, and some never do. The same is true in reverse, many young people have a lot of things they could pass on to older folks, and some of them are stubborn assholes who won't listen. The world is full of a lot of unique people, and assuming anything about them simply based on their age, is dumb as f***.

Howe scored at least 23 goals per season during those 22 years. Ovechkin right now has 19 years with at least 24 goals soon to be 20 years. Ovechkin still needs 2 more years after this with at least 24 goals both years.
If he stayed in the NHL he could reach that for sure. He just probably won't.

I really thought that Gretzky goalscoring record is one that will last forever. But Ovie is probably the most lethal and consistent goalscorer who ever played the game. So it's well deserved when he breaks that record, just a matter of time imo.

I wonder if Crosby would have passed Gretzky's goalscoring mark too, if he had not been injured.

Don't think Sid had it in him. But +700 goals and +2100 points I could see. Meaning that he'd be by and far the second most successfull offensive player in history.
