It was a normal amount of time between shifts. He was out with 4:30 left then again with 2:30 left.

Post of the century, considering Ovi has as many empty netters as 5 on 5 goals it would actually benefit his chase for the record!

The Capitals lost to the Panthers in the first round last year in large part because Hathaway shanked an empty net goal that would have put the Caps up 3-1 in the series. He missed it and it was icing and Florida tied it up on the ensuing face off and then won in OT.

Empty net goals are important to team success and Ovi is really good at scoring them.

His last three anniversary goals (500, 600, and 700) were all non-empty netters. I hope that he at least keeps this tradition for his 800th. And also scores it at home.

Yes, that has been pointed out in the thread before, they monitor the line changes for the last 5 minutes of the game to ensure Ovi is on the ice at the right time while the opponents big guns & D are tired & Ovi fresh to rush towards the empty cage!
