I think Ovechkin is Brett Hull 2.0, nothing more.

He’s so far away from being a complete player over his career the idea of him #5 seems certifiable to me, but agree to disagree.

MVP finishes:
Ovechkin: 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 6, 7, 9, 10
Hull: 1, 3, 3, 6

Point finishes:
Ovechkin: 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 7, 8
Hull: 2, 4, 5

Assists:
Ovechkin: 6, 6, 10
Hull: N/A

Goals Created:
Ovechkin: 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 4, 6, 6, 6,7, 8, 9
Hull: 1,1, 2, 4, 8

Even-strength goals:
Ovechkin: 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 5, 8, 9
Hull: 1, 1, 1, 7, 8, 10, 10

Led league in goals:
Ovechkin: 9x
Hull: 3x

Caps definitely struggling a bit with their injury woes, and it shows a bit on Ovy to - but he still managed to find the back of the net.

Will he hit 800/802 before the end of the year?

Looking at Edmonton game highlights Ovi was seemingly on the ice for all 9 goals, lol. For better and for worse... He's on a nice heater lately, though.

Wasnt on the ice for the RNH goal. Matches his -2 rating aswell as 4 of the 5 goals was on the PP for Washington.

I see this as directly supporting my argument that Ovi is Hull 2.0, yet it feels like you posted this to try to own my argument with stats or something.

Those stats show Ovi as a dominant goal scorer with limited playmaking outside of creating his own chances (which I 100% acknowledge is at the highest level). The most important stat in there is that Ovi was Top 10 for assists only three times in his career. So was Taylor Hall I think. (I don't know, I'd have to look, but that's the type of player that's lower Top 10 a few times in his career.)

Ovi is one of about a dozen players that will end his career with more goals than assists.

The list looks like this in terms of top goals to assists ratios:

Bondra: 1.3
Richard: 1.29
Ovi: 1.24
Bure: 1.18
Brett Hull: 1.14

So how is it not fair to say that Ovi is a better version of Brett Hull? Who is a better 2.0 version of?

I put their stat lines together, can you tell me which is which without names? (Obviously you can because Ovi passed him for goals, but I'm making a point)

I'd say watching them play is a great way to tell the difference. Ovechkin brought more physicality, speed and creativity than Hull ever did.

The difference is a lot of Hulls success and stat finishes came in his 3 year peak. He still had some good goal placings after 92 but he was never mentioned among the leagues best players. It would be like if Ovy didn't win any trophies or do much after 2010.
