On pace for 54 goals / 108 points. So sad what he’s devolved into.
You think I give a damn about pace? Check what he was on pace for in 2021-2022 after 42 games and match up that with his final numbers. Punch that in your computer, Teddy Bear.
That being said, I’m here for it! 8 goals and 8 assists through 12 games at 39 years old is awesome. Congrats all around to Ovechkin, the Caps, and the fans. He’s playing tremendous, they’re winning, and it’s looking like Gretzky’s record is toast this season. My comments come from a place of love. I miss that version of this player so much and just feel that he was taken from us before his time, despite where we are all these years later.

Nels Stewart making an appearance high on that goals list is pretty crazy, considering he played in an era of 48-game seasons.
Yeah, and Gretz is pretty low, playing on a dominant team, rarely having opportunity for "true GWG" heroics

Amazing that he’s still able to score like this at his age, leaving no doubts he’s the best goal scorer of all-time. Well on his way to surpassing Gretzky by the end of this season.

The crazy part is the Caps PP is dead last in the league at 9.3% and he only has 1 PP goal this season
OV being on top of ALL clutch stats is a strong indicator that he is probably the single most important player to a single hockey franchise

No way, that makes me think he has a real shot at 50 if it improves to a normal rate. Either way he doesn’t quite need 50 but I think he’s aiming for it.

Love the guy , gets older but changed his positioning so he can still contribute.

That would give "50 in 39" a whole new meaning
Gretzky was the guy who scored "50 goals in 39 games" and then went on to top the career goals list - just imagine the record taken away from him while the new record holder was marching towards 50 goals at age 39.

As a huge Ovi and Caps fan, I have to say there’s simply no chance of that happening. All indications are he has zero interest in playing beyond his current contract, which expires after next season. Seems extremely clear he is looking forward to returning home to Moscow with his family after next season.
I mean i could be wrong, or he could change his mind, but both Russian and English language interviews seem to indicate that desire.

Yeah his current contract was pretty much built to get him the record, the extra year was kinda a buffer in case he slowed down or got injured, don't see him playing past this contract. He's going to finish with over 900 goals, that's 20 years at 45+ goals a season.
