Ovechkin Milestone Thread - Countdown to 894

So he left Andreychuk and Shanahan behind and now Ovechkin is:
#3 all-time LW by assists (among 1660 LW)
#12 all-time winger by assists (among 3223 wingers)
If he can surpass Robitaille and Alfredsson this season he becomes #2 LW and #10 winger all-time by assists

The ugliest one was probably the one he scored against Phoenix where a Coyote player scored on his own net, and Ovi was simply the last Cap to touch the puck before that.

Coincidentally, he scored THE goal in the very same game.

That’s true, I totally forgot about that one!

Are you saying the next goal could be a highlight reel goal?

One relatively obscure milestone Ovechkin could achieve in 2024 - he's 34 ES points away from becoming only the 10th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 ES points.

He's also 20 primary points away from becoming the 9th player in NHL history to reach 1,300 primary points.

One more obscure stat - Ovechkin now ranks 8th all-time with 816 ES primary points. (Only ten players in NHL history have 800 ES primary points - McDavid will presumably get there at some point in the early to mid 2030's).

Honestly Ovechkin looks so much better so far this year than he looked early last year. Especially his hands. Sure he only has one goal and it was kind of a wonky one (I’m never going to talk down on a player going to the net and getting a favorable bounce, it’s a good way to get goals), but he looks pretty good.

He won’t be confused for a 22 year old Alex Ovechkin anytime soon or anything, but it’s nice to see him looking better. And it’s Ovechkin, we know that when he starts scoring they often come in bunches.

This surprises me considering all the talk in the middle of his career about how he relied heavily on the PP to produce.

Having 1300 primary points is definitely very impressive.

Still the greatest goal ever scored IMO. Wasn't a Cup winning goal, but I'm still in awe every time i see it.
