58G pace in highest scoring season. He also had that pace 3 years ago and last year in first half of the season.
22 yo Ovechkin had 65G and would have ~75G this season.

In 07-08 OV had 65 G, Semin second on Caps with 26 G, which is ridiculous 150% more goals.
Now OV has 29 G, Sheary second on Caps with 11 G, which is... 164% more goals.

It's quite unfair that Ovechkin scored a bunch of empty net goals, tricking opposing teams into thinking that he could only score with the goalie pulled. Now he's scoring a bunch of goals with the goalie in the net. How is the league not looking into this?

16 goals and 7 assists or 23 points in his last 14 games. That's nothing short of amazing, really. Wasn't expecting to see that kind of goal heater at his "advanced age" anymore, lol. Can he keep the iron hot the second half, too? We're expecting him to tail off at this point, you know like go 45, 40, 35 etc. after last season's 50. Is he not going give a *** and just gonna continue banging 50 after 50 after 50 instead?

The uptick in scoring is obviously helping him but when it's essentially the same shot over and over and no one can stop it, it's remarkable.
As scoring goes up though it will be interesting to see how many of these young guys reach 700 or 800 goals. It takes skill and luck.

Exactly 50% through the season, and Ovi already has the SEVENTH most goals all-time for a 37-aged season.

Johnny Bucyk holds that record with 40 goals in his 37 year old season. Unless Ovi gets injured, that’s probably the next record he will set this season, only need 12 goals in the remaining 41 games.

The schedule should work in his favor. IIRC someone posted a stat suggesting the Caps had the largest drop off in SOS from the first half to the second half of the season.

I'm hoping he goes for 1000 goals. If he's sitting in the mid 900s and is still playing well, it'll be very tempting to go for it.

If he does play long/productively enough to hit 1k he probably also makes a run at 1,800 points to slot in at #5 all time. That would almost assuredly require him to stick around after the current contract. Currently tracking to finish out in the 7-9 range under his current contract.

Agreed, I don’t think it’ll be his body that stops him from playing in the NHL. It’ll likely depend more on the pull of finishing his career out at Dynamo. Believe popular belief currently is that he’ll head home after the current contract.
Based on what we’re seeing of his career production arc (horizontal line) if he went the Howe route he’s probably setting the goals record completely out of reach and becoming the 2nd ever to hit 2k points. And at that point it would simply be a Big 5. Maybe the potential of that kind of legacy could keep him around?
He clearly CAN. The question is if he wants to. It was a few years back now, but his mom said he won't play past his current contract. I believe anything his mother says over anything speculated here (she was a 2-time Olympic gold medalist and wields huge influence over him).
But who knows, minds can change. Ovie certainly seems to still be having a ton of fun out there.
