This is my 802nd post in HF in 14 yrs, a bit slower rate than OV. Trying to provide interesting perspective on fellow Russian and Fairfax, VA neighbor's achievements. (Visited his home twice and bumping into him once a year on average)
I hereby vow to post only in this thread, each post # matching OVs goal. Will try to provide interesting/important statistical tidbit. Will see if I can pace myself and hopefully russian machine will not break

The craziest thing on the list has to be Sebastian Aho. 18th all time in empty net goals while entering the NHL after McDavid. 12.4 % of his goals are empty net goals. Just 1 empty net goal behind Messier who played the 3rd most games in NHL history!

That's what a lot of his haters have been praying for over the last 5-7 years. It hasn't happened yet so they've moved on and have accused/implied that he's on the juice.

With his 803rd goal OV pulled ahead of Joe Sakic and is now 10th all-time in Goals Created.
Goals Created is hockey-reference stat which tries to improve on simple/traditional/naive Points stat which gives equal weight to Goals, Primary Assists and Secondary Assists. Not everyone likes it, but it is one of the ways to account for goals importance. If you follow this thread, you probably suspect that Goals are (more) important.

Above all else, it would be just & fair, and that is what many are rooting for. The goals record should definitely stay with Gretzky. It would be an embarrassment for the sport of hockey if a person like that were to hold that (or any other meaningful) record.

As a 90’s baby I really started following hockey the year before the lockout and especially more so during Crosby and Ovie’s rookie year in 05-06. I feel so lucky to have followed both their careers so closely during the years I was obsessed with hockey, 2 livings legends side by side on the all time points list…
