Ovechkin Milestone Thread - Countdown to 894 (Continued)

Besides recognizing best goals scorers only in 1999 with Rocket Richard trophy,
I find it ridiculous that Presidents Trophy was introduced by NHL only in 1986.
People count regular season stats, award individual trophies, but still largely disregard teams success in Regular season, only getting excited when bubble/underdog team is making playoffs. This is still a NA sports "tradition"/anachronism.

Anyway, OV is working on his 4th Presidents trophy with Caps.
From active superstars, I think only MacK/Makar, Kane, Barkov and Kuch have 1.

I wonder which players have 4 or more, I could only think of Datsyuk with 4, is there any less famous Red Wing with 4+? I do not think any other teams have 4 Presidents Trophies.
4th Presidents trophy
That is actually a great achivemnt, i was thinking about this, how come a silver and bronze medal are good achivements in international play and something to be proud of, but finals and conference finals in NHL are worth like nothing?

8 in 15 games? It's going to be close. I think he will be short 1 or 2 goals by the end of the season.
8 goals in 15 games is .533 goals per game for a 43.7 goal pace over 82 games.

This season he has 34 goals in 51 games for .666 goals per game and a 54.7 goal pace over 82 games.

Since returning from injury he has 19 goals in 33 games for .576 goals per game which is a 47.2 goal pace over 82 games.

He also has 57 goals in his last 87 games played going back to last season.

Would be dope he beats the record for last game against Penguins on April 17th against Crosby.

During his last 15 games of the season that he's played over 19 season, ovechkin has only failed to score at least 8 goals 5 times. He's scored 8 goals or more 14 times. And Ovechkin is usually better when he's comming up on a huge milestone. Plus there's plenty of weak opponents to take advantage of. It would be really surprising if Ovechkin plays all 15 games and still falls short, but it seems like there's still some jobbers around here doubting Ovechkin.

Would be particularly fitting, as he scored his first (and second) goal in the NHL against CBJ.

I feel like he'll tie the record this season, but not break it. It would make for a fun off-season, just a little bit of media hype leading into next year.
It would be even more fitting if he were to break glass with a hit besides breaking the record against CBJ. It would be a riot.

Only take a brace or two in the next ten or so games and he'll be there this season. Of course we'll see him doing his best for the team rather than having the team focus on him. A superb team player.

This season he's scoring at a higher clip than the clip he needs to score at in his last 15 games to break the record. He's been scoring at a higher clip than he needs in the last 15 since returning from injury as well.

However, with so few games left, a three or four game goal drought can really screw things up. If he goes four in a row without a goal, he'll need 8 in the other 11 to break the record this year. That's a tall order down the stretch. On the other hand, if he has a stretch of four goals in four games, he'll only need four in the other 11 he has left and will basically be guaranteed to get there barring injury.

Other factors too can come into play as he gets closer.

Teams shadowing him even closer, Ovechkin gripping the stick tighter as well.

A multi goal game or two is what he needs.

OVECHKIN, CROSBY CONTINUE PURSUITS OF GRETZKY RECORDS
The Great 8 is now just eight goals shy of setting an NHL record as Alex Ovechkin scored his 887th career goal to inch closer to The Great One, Wayne Gretzky (894). The Gr8 Chase shifts back to D.C., where the Eastern Conference-leading Capitals (44-15-8, 96 points) will contest a three-game homestand to kickstart their final 15 games of the season, a schedule that culminates with a showdown April 17 in Pittsburgh against longtime rival Sidney Crosby, who is pursuing a Gretzky record of his own.

* Ovechkin’s goal came on the third anniversary of when he moved into third place on the all-time NHL goals list and in his first-ever meeting versus both Patrick Giles, a Maryland native who met Ovi as a kid, and Georgi Romanov, an undrafted netminder who became the 182nd different goaltender to yield a regular-season goal to Ovechkin. The 39-year-old has scored 668 of his goals since 2009-10 when shots by type were first tracked, with Saturday’s tally standing as his 30th logged as a tip-in during that span.

* Ovechkin is donating to pediatric cancer research for each goal he scores through the end of his career, and his donations will be matched by Monumental Sports & Entertainment. Click here to help make The Gr8 Chase mean even more by joining Ovechkin in donating – 100% of funds raised go to lifesaving childhood cancer research through the V Foundation and Hockey Fights Cancer.

Most Goals Scored Age 35-39:

Johnny Bucyk - 183
Alexander Ovechin - 181
Brett Hull - 155
Teemu Selanne - 154
Jean Ratelle - 149
Gordie Howe - 148
Mark Messier - 135

Some will say that "nothing Ovechkin has done in the last five years will change my perception of him" but this is certainly an age-adjusted run for the ages.

I doubt teams, unless he's like 2 goals away are going to play him any different than normal. So, these next 8-10 games, I don't foresee him getting shadowed. But, when we get down to the final 6/7 games I can see some teams wanting to keep their goalie out of the history books. Edm and Ranford was the team when he broke Howe's point record. McLean and the Canucks when he broke the goals record.
