My prediction now is that he actually tie it in the same amount of games as wayne AND breaks it in the same match,

he has surprised me over and over this season, so i cant bet against him,

i dont think he is going for a dry stretch

, i was wondering about his longest stretch to make ten goals so i could make a informed prediction, but i go with this now,

now i have to check which game that would be.

Between the overrepresented Penguins fans, the guys who prefer Canadian players, and the guys have nostalgia to the point where they think Ovechkin would have been the 5th-8th greatest player on the 1956 Canadiens, there's pretty much nothing Ovie ever could have done.

You might be overthinking the term “poetic.” The other poster, most likely, implies that it could be symbolic. I don’t think it’s an unreasonable take.

Also why shot on goal is a bad thing?
Especially for Gretzky's EDM shooting more was a very positive part of hockey.

I am genuinely confused... Are you saying that Gretzky has a better shot than Ovechkin? Otherwise, I fail to see how the shot count is relevant to the discussion.

People should just appreciate the countdown and the record which hopefully will happen this season and other discussions should take place in other threads.

I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the chase and leave my overall impressions for other threads, people on both sides should do the same and not inflate or deflate the record chase.

I’m just looking forward to him breaking the record so the Gretzky fans can see that in fact him losing one record doesn’t hurt him being considered the greatest player of all time at all and they can breathe easy.

I had no idea Ovechkin was working on his PHD. Does that mean we should start calling him Dr. Ovie?

Unfortunately hopefully not Locker, since I don’t think he’s coming back this season, at least not for a while, hopefully Ovechkin can go on a run and break the record sooner rather than later so maybe he can take some games off late in the season.
