Odds he signs another contract in the NHL?

Yeah I think he’s done once the contract expires next season.

He’s mentioned how difficult the physical preparation is in the offseason at his age. The league is only getting younger every year and he’s becoming older.

He’s a 39 year old man with 1,500+ games of physical NHL games on his record, must be so hard to recover and prepare.

Also, he’d have nothing left to do or prove. He’s won the Stanley Cup and will have the all time record with 900+ goals to his name. He finished hockey the same way Messi finished soccer.

This is why I was curious if he'd walk away after this season if he breaks it. Then do a year in the K (I thought that was his plan at one point, anyway).

I think one season with Moscow Dynamo in the KHL is a realistic plan. Schedule is easier than the NHL schedule, it’s at home and he probably doesn’t need as much physical preparation due to the skill level being lower in that league.

If he breaks it this season, any chance he says F it and retires?
Yes, it's possible he will retire after this season. There are people who believe Ovechkin is primarily motivated by status and money. I'm not sure if I believe that myself, but the rumors are out there. As others have said, if he breaks the record this season, he won’t have anything left to play for. However, Ovechkin might want to be perceived as altruistic - someone who isn’t only interested in his own status, which could lead him to postpone retirement for a while to maintain that image.

Ovechkin's career looks like a really big flip-book of goals scored from his 'office'.
Really?
Ovechkin's Top20-30 beat anyone's top10.
Somewhere from top 40-50:

And somehow no one added this gem in his highlights (very close to top 10)

If OV gets 895 this season, he will play for 2 Stanley Cups (and 900), plenty of motivation.
Caps being contenders should give him enough fuel to play out his contract.
You could see how much he is loved in DC, check crowds reaction to his empty net yesterday.

PS. Rumor is partial season PPG streak is a good enough motivation (or breaking Gretz empty net points record) :sarcasm:

OVECHKIN SCORES AGAIN, THOMPSON EXTENDS STREAK FOR CAPITALS
In a clash between the Eastern Conference’s two division leaders, the Capitals (35-11-7, 77 points) outlasted a pair of game-tying goals from the Panthers (32-20-3, 67 points) before pulling away for the victory. Alex Ovechkin capped Washington’s six-goal charge just before the buzzer, notching his team-leading 25th with just 0.1 remaining in regulation.

* Ovechkin, who scored for the third consecutive game, now sits 17 away from passing Wayne Gretzky in The Gr8 Chase to claim the NHL’s all-time goals record. Ovechkin owns a goals-per-game rate of 0.68 this season, which puts him on pace to pass Gretzky at home versus Carolina (April 10). Ovechkin owns a career average of 0.60 and that rate has him tracking to break the record in Washington’s last game of the season at Pittsburgh (April 17).

Just checked the Caps home game tickets for the last 3 games of the season, they all start at $130 already

The last home game is against Columbus which Ovechkin also scored his first 2 career goals. I would allow him to score his record breaking goal against Columbus too :sarcasm:
Their final 2 games of the season are away, vs the Islanders and Pens. Tickets for the Isles game are about $64 supposedly including fees ("All-In Pricing"), and the Pens game cheapest seats are $65 (not including all fees?)

I said several months ago ... if I were in those markets I'd be considering buying tickets. Just in case.

You must be talking about some reverse Ovechkin  Real Ovechkin has arguably the most impressive highlight reel of all time.

Here are some half-decent goals.

Sounds like you got the wrong impression of my comment. I'm not diminishing Ovechkin's spectacular scoring. Quite the opposite. I consider him a walking highlight-reel. I described it as a 'flip-book' because he's scored so many highlight-reel goals they've become a bit of a blur.
