If the Leafs are being accused of playing off and letting Ovi get empty nets and other teams do, at least I don't think Gretzky is going to go off and confront anyone like that guy mad at Bret Favre for giving up a sack to Michael Strahan

What the hell was up with that guy?

He scored some big goals in the Caps Cup run and then immediately fell off the face of the Earth.

Kind of another John Druce...

Yeah, flash in the pan indeed. As @FreeToShareWithMeOk pointed out, he came into the following season completely out of shape.

DSP had the clutch gene though, so many huge goals even outside of the Caps Cup run.

Leafs already beat the Caps this year once when they pulled their goalie, a little give back is only fair

Most players from Ovi's generation/culture are closer to Matthews than Ovi as well. Sometimes a freak is just a freak
It's true but the old generation just seems tougher in regards to durability.

Look at Tom Brady, he played till his 40's and other than that one season where he had the serious injury, he never missed games.

Federer, Nadal, Djokovic in tennis. 20+ years at the top no matter the injuries they were dealing with.

MJ flu game. And the numerous 82 games seasons.

There are exceptions of course but the newer generation would probably not play if they feel sick or something is bothering them.

I mean, yeah. At the same time, we know a lot more about injuries now than we did even 20 years ago. We're seeing the long term results of these guys who retired 15-20 years ago and half of them (especially the super physical ones who played a long time) and how they struggle to walk and stuff. End of the day, the current generation, in 30-40 years, are likely to still be in reasonably good shape, and their bodies aren't likely to be breaking down on them.

Plus. again, there are just some guys, who are absolute genetic freaks who are built for this kind of thing. Brady is one of them, Ovechkin is one of them. Michael Phelps is one of them. Sometimes you just *are* built different

25 goals away from the big number. The question now is if the handful of games he lost keep him from getting it this season.

25 goals in Washington's 47 remaining games seems like child's play pace for a guy like him so i wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if he still gets there by season's end.
5 goals remaining will make a great offseason story

Ovechkin: *scores goal*
hfboards: ok so here's why what he did was BAD, actually...
Whatever, as a Devils fan who will ostensibly be competing with the Caps for playoff positioning please keep doing that. Next time, the pass won't go through and the other team will score due to a number advantage while Ovy has to turn around and come back.
