Part of managing the NHL would be to draw as much attention to a record being broken as possible one would think.
But sure in reality if he wasn't there for some family emergency would there be less attention?

I'm rooting for Ovi to break the record but it was annoying to watch many Caps fan effectively say "he's superhuman he will be back in 2 weeks." The guy is nearly 40 and broke his leg. I think anyone paying attention knew he would miss significant time and they literally told you he would be out 4-6 weeks. Pushing for him to return at 4 weeks was laughable given he still has a year on his contract so who cares if he doesn't break it this year?
Also worth mentioning Ovi is not guaranteed to return 1st game after the break. All that was stated is that he will not return before the break. Let the guy heal.

The one in 09-10 was a suspension. I remember a hit from behind on Brian Campbell.
