No ligament damage means he’s coming back and smashing that record. Only question is if he will have enough time left or not.

He’s going to miss approximately 15-20 games over the next 6 weeks, meaning he‘ll have 45 games left to score the remaining 27 goals. It’s going to be a close call, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him break it in the final game of the season.

We’re in for an exciting race to the finish!

I think most reasonable people figured he would be out a while. It’s also worth mentioning he got somewhat injured last year and I recall him leaving practice injured prior to this season. A lot of people were coping and assuming he would only be out 1 week. I could see him being out the max of 6 weeks and maybe more given his age. It’s best to treat older players with more caution given how good he has been this season.

Well, I for one hope he does beat the record this year as we never know what can happen year to year and the sooner he does it, the better. I saw it said he was out 4-6 weeks and glad to hear that you said no ligament damage, so he should come back relatively guns blazing. I know I am an Avs fan, but once Ovie gets close (within a few goals of it), I was going to start trying to watch more games as I just want to see Ovie's reaction when he does beat it. Will be one hell of a feat and accomplishment, the celebration should be awesome

6 weeks makes him ready for new years, 45 games left in the season. Pace of 49 goals does it.

4 weeks makes him ready for December 20th against the Canes, an extra 6 games. Pace of 43 goals to beat the record.

Still very much doable. Will just make it that much more impressive.

Such a bad break for Ovy. 4-6 weeks he would easily score about 15 goals. Hopefully he doesn't lose his form when he returns.
Well average of 3 games a week would be 12-18 games. He was in a torrid pace in his 18 games to date. Needed 26 to tie and 27 to break the record. Might have done it this season if he stayed healthy. 27 goals in 64 games would have been doable.

How long he is out exactly may play a big factor. I mean he was on a 68 goal pace. Sure, unsustainable but still. If he's out until around Xmas he could still do it.
To break Wayne's record, he needs 27 more goals. Played 18, so if he misses say 15 games, that would bee 50 games or so left. So, he'd have to do at least half a goal a game pace over those 50 games.

If anyone knows anything, it's not to count out OV on scoring in bunches, especially the last half of any season

We all know that OV can pull off a GPG run for 15-20 games every Jan/Feb

This year started off the stuff of Legends, holy shit if he comes back and does 30 in 50. The Buzz would be over-the-top in all of Sports (and beyond)

No record falls easily in a league that big and that old. Even the one record that’s declared “easier” to achieve.

That could’ve been easily a season/career ending injury, but the God has granted Ovi and all of us some more time to witness and enjoy the final ride.

Just to think, the hockey world is shocked in disbelief that Ovi misses 4-6 weeks. That he’s actually a human, after all. Who’d have thought he is?

That man and a career he has had so far, has made many of us to EXPECT from him unordinary things. We’re all just spoiled.

I’m actually a bit lost of words, when I truly realize this.

OV is just special. And so far, one of a kind.

This is just a bump in the road in the whole scope of things. He'll still break the record either this season or early next. Even with this injury, given the season he was having, he could still do it this year.

At this point, the question is whether he goes for 1000.
