When Wayne Gretzky was approaching Gordie Howe's goals record (late in the 1993-94 season), Mr. Hockey attended a number of Kings games, in order to give #99 moral support, and in order to witness the historic moment in person.

Hopefully Gretzky takes the same approach with Ovechkin late this season, or early next.

"And then all those Leafs fans said Matthews is a better goal scorer!"

Not trying to make it about them. But Leaf fans who were saying last year that Matthews has a chance to break the all time goals record should be the picture beside the word cringe in the dictionary

He already said he will, multiple times.

I am sure that he will. He actually spoke about this.

Gretzkys dad told him that one day someone’s going to break his records and that he better shake his hand and support him just as Gordie did. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t do this

Well, Ovi took the ice during TV timeout and tested the leg. Didn't feel good enough to go and went back to the lockerroom, but that is encouraging news that it isn't terribly serious
It's 6-2. I would have loved to see him get another hattrick but there's no point in it. Take the rest of the night off and take the couple day break to heal up.
