A lot of bad luck. He would have something like another 10 goals right now from a combination offside reviews and hitting posts/crossbar. Overall the Caps are the 3rd worst goal scoring team in the NHL. The Caps lack of generating enough offense is hurting OV as well. What's wrong with Ovy this year? No one on the Caps can dish the puck to him anymore? If not, then trade for a playmaking center just so Ovy can smash Gretzkys record.
I think it is combination of OV age finally catching up and Caps being bad offensive team. OV is 38. Caps are 2.38 G/GP this season, were 3.08 and 3.29 in previous seasons.A lot of bad luck. It’s a part of the game. While I agree Ovi has gotten some bad breaks, he has regressed mightily. Anyone watching Caps games can see that.A lot of bad luck. Well, it looks like Ovechkin will top Gretzky’s 9 goals as a 38 year old
As much as I’d like that, I think 20 would be good for this lackluster yearOvi still gonna hit 30 goals this year
Man I love this player
Number of shots looks better than the shooting %, but that's the only good thing about this number.I mean again his shot volume is there, pucks just aren't going in

The last time Ovechkin hit 50 goals (2 seasons ago), he was #2 in the league in shots.
Last season (when he had 42 goals), he was #12 in the league in shots.
This season, he is #28,
Someone needs to start feeding him the puck. The guy is 38, not 23, he cannot generate his scoring chances all by himself like he used to.
Here is my question. Did Ovechkin ever publicly say he wants to beat the record and play until he does? Because honestly, he looks to me like he could retire at any moment. I suspect Ovie doesn't like the idea of him scoring 20 goals a season in his remaining years. He might feel he has proven everything he has to, and in reality he has.
Well, scoring 20 goals a year at 39, 40, 41 is pretty good still…my issue would be if he’s chipping away at like 10-15 a year or lessHere is my question. Maybe he retires after this season then?He has specifically said that he won't hang on just to linger at a lower level than his standards.
Maybe he retires after this season then?
But if course people can change their minds too.
