Crazy world we live in to see a picture like this. I can't help but feel this picture would be more complete if Nicklas Backstrom were in it.

Both franchises have been very fortunate to have these guys as their centerpiece for so long. They will be missed when they retire. Also, hats off to the Pens fans who gave Ovie the standing ovation today. It's great that we can set aside our fan loyalties to recognize greatness.

I'll be happy to give Sid and Geno the same treatment at Capital One Arena.

As an outsider and rival to both of these teams, I really appreciate that they've gotten to the point where that passion for the game brings out the respect that these three guys have for each other.

We have been blessed to see all three do their thing at the highest level and elevate the game to a new level. We don't get the elite players now without them.

The NHL was in as bad of shape as it could have been in 2005. Fast forward 20 years and these three inspired a generation of players and effectively changed the game of hockey along the way.

I'm glad that I got to see the beginning, prime, and sunset of each of their careers. We only have so many left, and the appreciation between the three sets a tone for the future of the league.

They didn't just win, they exceeded expectations and became the legends of the game this generation needed. The flowers are deserved.

It's also time to rename The Rocket to The Ovi award. He's the best to ever do it. He is the bar. Make it happen.

No, it must stay the Rocket. Otherwise, deepest thank you's to three Legends.

As a Caps fan, I’ve long said that one of the best parts of the 2018 run was my animosity towards other teams melting away. Ovi getting this franchise its first Cup meant everything, and any and everything since then has been gravy. It’s probably some combination of the 2018 Cup plus me getting older but the lows aren’t nearly as low as they used to be and I can appreciate the journey a lot more.

But why? Assuming because the sound of the iron?

May be just me (and this is kinda not directly related to your point) but I love the sounds of hockey. The puck hitting sticks, the skates on the ice, the sticks hitting sticks, puck hitting iron, bodies crashing into the boards - it's lovely.

As opposed to basketball where it's squeaking shoes. Ugh.

Also seeing Green who IMO was the best at getting the puck to Ovie from the point, the ping, and the iso at the end where the Philly fan slams the glass in disgust behind Ovie.
