Still can't really get an answer if he's retiring or not. Here are some nuggets after the BJ game.

-No handshakes or send off or anything, he went right off the ice.
-Owner Ted Leonsis was in the dressing room on the road (weird for a season where you don't make the playoffs).
-NHL Tonight has a live shot of him in locker room, trainer was asking him what to do with Jersey/stick.

I think he's done.

And no offense to him, and not to sound like a hater but it's almost like the capitals are going out of their way to get him goals and sacrificing making winning hockey plays at this point to pad his stats. Not just this game, but during the entire season and prior.
About your last paragraph. I don’t think that you are a hater, but you are simply not familiar with the Caps’ culture. The Caps “are going out of their way” because Ovi is the greatest thing that ever happened to this franchise!

Backy is another good example — the Caps gave him a $9.2 mil/year contract after he started having problems with his hip. It might sound imprudent to some, but the Caps weren’t going to cast him away considering what he has done for the team.

He'd need to play another 3 years at his current production to reach 1000 regular season goals, but he can already claim that he's scored 1000 (counting playoff)

Ovi strikes me as the type of guy that will go as long as he feels capable of playing at an elite level.

Can see him retiring, can see him doing a retirement tour next year.

It's all up to him (as it should be).

This. Been a fan since '74. And there have been other great players along the way, like Langway and Stevens. But Ovie was up on another level. As a player, as a teammate, as a marketing draw for team and league. And we got him for 21 straight years. We were spoiled

Just a side question, is NHL on a network over there? Or is it on a streaming service?

edit: nowdays its the same here in sweden, we just breed them up, then the NA takes them, not many ends their careers here either anymore.
Well AFAIK NHL games streaming here in Russia is available only as part of sport channels by subscription. And it’s not like NHL only channel but common sport/hockey, where NHL is a part of content.

the good thing is, if you want to watch a game at a certain time, you’ll probably (99%) be able to find a streaming (mostly as part of sport channel as part of stream service subscription, OR for free, just by surfing streaming in the Internet, thanks to pi-rates)

He got a Cup, has scored the most goals in history, and honored his contractual obligation.

He’s going to sign with Dinamo for a year or two and finish his personal journey.
I’ve read an interesting article recently about Dinamo and what Ovi could potentially bring to the team.

The team is in the process of rebuilding/retool, and with all the attention Ovi and Dinamo would get coming back and all the expectations from him, the team would have to switch focus more on organizing him supporting cast and giving him more ice time rather than on developing of the young players and making a system work.

In the longer term the author was questioning whether for Ovi coming back now to Dinamo is a good idea at all.

Sure enough Ovi’s a legend, but here he could have been given a prime minutes and that could cost the team.

I can’t say that this kind of logic is totally nonsense.

He's already said(?) or alluded to that he wants to finish his career in Russia. Which means, for him to come back next year, he would still have 2 more years of pro hockey. I just can't see it. I think he goes 1 last pro year in KHL, next year, and that's all she wrote. Nothing left for him to really achieve in NHL or fulfill (expiring contract).

He's less than 40 points from surpassing Mario. McDavid will get there in about 5 more years, so OV cares much about being "top 10" in all-time points, I guess that could motivate him for one final year, and give him the proper farewell tour.

There's a reason to think that Ovechkin might be capable of better production than what we saw this year. He scored 32 goals despite having very little success on the power play (the whole team struggled). If you look at his career stats, 5 PP goals this year is completely outside the norm. He should be closer to 15, and if he was around that mark he'd finish the season at about 40 goals.

Ovechkin has had a down year in PP goal production before, in 2010-11, when he scored just 7 PP goals. He rebounded to 13 the following year, and 16 the season after that.

Obviously much depends on broader team factors, not to mention on whether the team continues to view him as its offensive anchor. If the Caps bring him back next season, but stop giving him the same kinds of opportunities on the PP, his production might wane. It might go either way, depending on what they have in mind and Ovechkin's own motivations.

I don't know, the eye test suggests his stats seem to be beyond his level of play at this point. He still scored 32 goals (7 were ENG though), but watching the games, you don't really notice him out there anymore. But he can still shoot the puck....so he can do nothing all game and all of a sudden get a chance and could score. Suspect that would still be there next year if he plays, but if that happens, I see him being even slower and moving less....could still have decent production though.

That’s why — in case he decides to comeback — he should play at a lower weight. To somewhat recover some of the speed.

But this would require a radically different approach to training and dieting (goodbye Cheetos, subway sandwiches, and coke?). I am not sure if Ovi would go this far.

Agreed. He did F all but can certainly still put the puck in the net. Needs to get off the Pat Maroon school of off-season "conditioning" and onto something a little better.

Emerge of Ilya, Leno, and Hutson I think helped sway his decision a bit. Put him on the 3rd line/PP2 next season and let's boogie!
