Ovechkin hit on Jake Evans

Clean hit (unlike the Wilson one on Carrier later in the game).

It's a makeup call for the missed boarding from a minute earlier but there's not really anything wrong with this hit. Ovi did a great job pulling back when he recognized Evans could have been vulnerable, seems like he put his weight through his core/ hips not his arms.

Wilson was on time, shoulder tucked and didn't leave his feet. You can't penalize a guy for being taller than the player he hit.

Habs fan here.

Shit was clean as f***.

"Puck being here" is right. He just played it. Like its legit in the same action.

Some of yall never played hockey and it shows.

Wilson hit on Carrier is clean in my book but I think he might have made contact first with head? Not sure didnt see the replay. I was mad as f*** that this shitty goal went in. So fluke.

It doesn't matter whether the head is hit first. That isn't how the current rule is written. What matters is if it's the head as part of the body (ok) vs. the head instead of the body (not ok).

IMO that wasn’t a hit. Ovechkin was curling to play the puck, but it was swept away before he could get to it.

At that point, there’s nowhere to go. Two guys are on the same railroad tracks heading straight at each other. Evans was in no position to protect himself so he got the worst of it. Terrible result for him, but what is Ovechkin supposed to do? Not skate toward the puck?

This video is a good reference. Ovechkin hit through the body, and there was some head contact. He did not explode up into the hit.

Who knows if this actually matters, but this is one of the only times I am aware of that the NHL released reasoning for not suspending a player
