GDT: OV vs Rockford IceHogs 7pm EST

What a night, only wish could've witnessed it in person, the energy came through the b'cast pretty loud and clear, plus all the Oshbabe/Backi/Devo/Holts/Orpik/GreenLife420's et al in the house, perfect

the 35th instance of 4 consecutive gms with a goal was a new record to me, hadn't heard that one before, plus took over most 1st pd goals ever

OV didn't waste time getting there did he, imagine how potentially long a trudge going from 802 to 894 with no "real" milestones in reach for 90+ goals as you inch towards 40 years old, just daunting esp with how the 1st half of last season went and then the Fibula this year, amazing

Hope the circus will die down a little now that it's tied and the team can get more focused on what starts in just over 2 weeks

I think he might have gotten moved to play with Dowd and Duhaime not totally as a punishment but to put him in a position to simplify the game a bit. I do love seeing the confidence.
What a wild 6 days it’s been for this kid. Lost in the tourney, gets “picked up” in Boston to join the circus, which goes off the rails in Raleigh. Then his first home game is hockey history, and gets congratulated by Gretz after his first goal.

Really like his attitude, and confidence to go to the dirty areas and make his presence felt. A little too much dangling and questionable puck management at times. But nothing unusual for a kid. Excited to have his energy in the bottom 6 during the POs (I still assume that’s where he shakes out).

What a night (and a real night for me ahaha :) )

That was crazy
Ovi tying the record
Leno's first

Hope he'll do it at home for 895

Ovi also has the GWG record all time now. 1 more than Jagr.

On the team side
We peaked too early it seems like...
Thompson injured, Protas injured, team not playing well against bad teams.
The little hope that I have is that in the playoffs everything is tighter. So speedy teams shouldn't be a problem like it's the case in the past few weeks.

Ryan Leonard must be like, “wow, the NHL is crazy”. So far he had a debut in his home town, a completely off the rails game in Carolina, then scores his first goal (great instincts and hustle) and is there for Ovechkin tying the record.

I can’t imagine how star struck he must be hanging around Ovechkin and Gretzky, being congratulated by both for his first NHL goal. This kid’s living our childhood dreams!

noticed that too.
paradoxically, though, i hope he doesn't give up on this and continues to try new solutions. we have a damn good team, but we also have very few players who dare to take on bold one-on-one challenges and dangle through opponent

I haven't felt this way since we won the Stanley Cup. And likely never before that either. Time to go get some more merch /s I recommend all to watch all the @capitals tweets. Only more icing on the cake would have been that hat of course. "Do I go around the net?" I was wondering the same thing.

Showing this to my kid. This is why you play sports.

What is this beer!! - EDIT: STELLA!

I just saw the team picture video, Protas has the arch of his left foot circled with tape, toes and heel free; no boot.

The way his leg seemed to give out,, I was terrified it was an achilles. (I personally wasn't 100% positive their was skate blade contact from the live video.) But in the video for that picture he was putting weight on the leg, which he probably wouldn't be doing if it was something severe like that.

A friend said Chicago called timeout to get Ovechkin out for an ENG... did that happen?

I remember after an icing a long delay - maybe that was the timeout.

Just saw they credited Ovechkin with only 3 shots on goal last night. He surely had 3 alone after Knight was put back in at 5-3. Who's tracking this stuff?

My day is ruined.
lol i was thinking about the same thing. went on flashscore to check if he was close to 10 SOG and saw only 3, i was like "WTF? im blind it seems"

Well his first goal technically doesn't count as a SOG because he hit the post first but still weird that he has 3 SOG during the whole game.
