Saw on the news Lorelei in north Edmonton was the first one opened this year.
Not sure how good the ice would be this early on.

I don't understand how any could be open yet. The ground needs to freeze first and that hasn't happened yet.

I doubt anything will be open for at least a week or two. I mean have we even dipped below -10 yet? Need a base to build off of for most rinks around my area

If anyone lives close to the McKernan rink I would really appreciate updates!!! I'm across the river but the lrt can take me right there.
I've had many skates on my birthday before - Dec 5th - so I hope to get a good game in by then.

I live very close to the rink. Will update for sure. I don't find the ice there to be very good though unfortunately. Hopefully improved this year.

Ice should be in soon. I know it has been warm, but only takes a week of sub zero temperatures.

Anyone around the Lorelei area know if the rink is skateable? Don't know how it would be open in this weather.

I live 2 mins away I'm not sure the weather is cold enough North side is pretty warm.
I also couldn't find the article on the CTV site, I swear I heard it though!

not in my area at all but some one said the castledowns rink would be open tomorrow. Found it a little hard to believe, but any way that is what some one said.

Walked by the other day, they were flooding. Still was pretty much grass though. I would imagine another week.

Checked over the weekend at my local rink - it looked like they had a nice base, but the guy working on it said they needed it to be thicker before opening it - and with the cold temperatures this week it should be good to go by next weekend. :)

How are the rinks looking with this current cold spell?

For the last 4 years I helped look after a local rink in Saskatoon - we would start flooding after November 1st when we saw below -5 for highs for the majority of the following 14 day forecast as a rule of thumb - I would say ice should start being decent by this weekend at a well maintained outdoor rink

We went from + temperatures a couple weeks ago to this, nothing in between, so i doubt much ice would be available !

With my son's Timbit hockey shut down till the new year, I'd love to get him outside and skating today, but our local rink is not open.

Any open outdoor ice in SW Edmonton?

saw a sign infront of highlands rink saying it would be open Dec 20th.

They have been doing little rinks on the tennis courts instead of flooding the big rink for the last few years though for some reason
