I'll never understand the desire of habs fans for former players to do poorly on other teams.

If you talk about Danault....pretty sure they also loved when he was doing poorly here. Aside from that, it's all about being a fan of a team rather of players. Frankly, I'm at the opposite side of things...I never understood people wishing well to our ex-players unless...the loved them when he was playing here. Or I guess you felt that he was badly mistreated and feel for the guy....

Personnally, I'M just indifferent. I think Danault was unfairly judged by most people in here for various reasons....But he wasn't scoring. That's a fact. Still, his effect was greater than people loved to think and I guess we will see that this year. But wishing him to do well? Why? Good luck to him. BUt so what if he does poorly or does insanely well? What does it do to my team? Same for Patch, and whatever. If only seeing our players succeed elsewhere would mean having fired our GM....I'd be drooling for success elsewhere...

But since it does nothing...what's the point?

I mean you'd think that after awhile KK would realize that opposing players hit you when you have the puck...

Love they gave Dobson credit for being so strong but given the player he hit falls down with a stiff breeze, they may want to use a better example.

I've only watched the 2nd period, but man Danault looks good... Not only his goal but he has a real presence on the ice, made a bunch of nifty plays and slick passes while also being a dog on the puck. I think this will be a case of "Don't know what you got 'till it's gone" lol

Confidence and trust are far bigger factors in player success than most fans appreciate...

Young players typically need more external help to anchor those things, vets tends to have more resilience when coaches/organizations undermine them... but it affects players of any age.

When a player with a solid skill set and great work ethic lands in a great situation (playing in a role well suited to his abilities vs being miscast) where he feels valued, that's a great opportunity for him to reach the heights of his potential. If that's what Danault has found, and he stays healthy, he might just end up making the habs management, and much of the fanbase (myself included) look foolish in missing what was right under their nose.

How can any Habs fan whose watched this team the last 5 years no realize what they lost with Philippe Danault?

Of course, it's going to hurt losing him...he did a ton for this team and was a huge part of its identity.

But it will also allow for other players to forge their own identity.

I know we all expect this to happen overnight, but it will take time...just like it did with Danault.

The Habs lost a very good player in Danault...there's no doubt about it.

But that's the NHL, you can't keep everyone.

Watching the LA-GK game last night and I still can't understand why we never had interest in a guy like B Lemieux for our 4th line. Energy guy that brings some nasty to a team. Instead, we have Paquette and Perrault.

For me it depends on how the player left...

I wish nothing but success to Danault

For Kotkaniemi, not that I don't want him to have success, but I really wouldn't want him to blow up in Carolina

If KK succeeds, it just means the habs were right to have drafted him and I don't see how that's a bad thing. It means our scouts know what's up.

Bad thing in the sense that it should have been here.

But I certainly don't wish him NOT to be successful.

It's more of a selfish thing lol

JK is a lose-lose situation. If he doesn't succeed in Carolina it means we f***ed up a second 3rd overall pick in the last 10 years which certainly is not a positive. I like both Anderson and Dvorak but if this is the result of two 3rd overall picks then it's not a great return. If he succeed in Carolina then it means we should have matched the offer. Either way it's not positive.

WOW ! this league is preparing itself to get another lock-out soon.

Maybe because of Seth Jones being vastly overrated. McAvoy is worth this contract though. He’s one of the best defenders in the league and still puts up a good amount of points despite not being that effective on the PP

Defenceman really got paid this off-season. How would posters rank these long term contracts (AAV in millions):

Hughes - 6 years $7.85 AAV
Heiskanen - 8 years $8.45 AAV
Makar - 6 years $9.0 AAV
Hamilton - 7 years $9.0 AAV
Nurse - 8 years $9.25 AAV
McAvoy - 8 years $9.5 AAV
Jones - 8 years $9.5 AAV
Werenski - 6 years $9.58 AAV

Well if you find that confusing, how about all the fans hoping for our own current players to fail?

KK signed an OS and put this team in a bad spot.
Completely his right to do so. As a fan of THIS team, why would I want him to succeed.

Contrast that with the Subban trade and all the posters wanting Weber to fail, cheering everytime he had a bad game. Or all the hate directed at Drouin. Thats the stuff that doesn’t make sense

Here my ranking:

1. Makar - 6 years $9.0 AAV
2. Heiskanen - 8 years $8.45 AAV

3. Jones - 8 years $9.5 AAV
4. Werenski - 6 years $9.58 AAV

6. Hughes - 6 years $7.85 AAV

7. Hamilton - 7 years $9.0 AAV
8. Nurse - 8 years $9.25 AAV

I put 4 category
1-2: I like the contract
2-3: A bit much but ok with it
4-5: Too much $$$
6-7: Way too much term and $$$
