What's with the shortage of good NHL goalies? Having grown up in the golden age of goalies, the current crop seems to thin. Maybe it's nostalgia talking and the players and systems and sticks etc are that much more advanced and good goalies are having a harder time, IDK...

Players are better with better sticks. It's a faster game & you're not allowed to mug, hold guys around the net anymore, so there's a lot more one on one.

Save percentages have dropped a lot over the last few years, though.

Leafs up 2-0 early against Tampa.

Even though the Atlantic half of the bracket probably has a more difficult round 2, I sort of want to overtake Ottawa for the Leafs matchup round 1.
I don't.

Simply because I would like the guys to rest a bit before the POs. I would play some kids from the AHL, Wifi, etc and rest Anderson, Armia, and others who are playing through injuries

Pulling a Rantanen? Their management is a strange mix of ubernerd GM and weirdly hands-on cheap owner. Probably don’t have the best reputation throughout the league.
I think more a lot of Russian players want to get paid and Nikishin probably wants an immediate 8 year extension at 8+ mil. Canes are known to bridge deal first or ask for discounts.

I truly believe that's the reason Bergevin was second to Chicago for Panarin originally. I think he wanted to come here but saw the Subban fiasco.

I don't think any Russian is dreaming of being underpaid their entire career for a chance to get to the second round.

Orlov was probably brought in to ease in Nikishin but I think the Canes expected him to buy out his contract last summer. They mega overpaid Orlov for a shorter term to outbid others and he's probably going to get another decent contract this summer elsewhere with the rising cap to "cap" off his career. Signing 4-6 years at 4.5 or something wouldn't have netted him as much.

Or maybe Orlov is actually telling Nikishin Carolina isn't a great place for Russians. They have no other compatriots on their roster.

I'd overpay for Nikishin this summer if it were possible. He's exactly what we need save for not being right handed.

It would be double hilarious too since they were one of two teams that Adam Fox baited.

Canes will forever be on my shitlist for the high stick on Koivu from Williams. I don't think the Canes win the cup or that series without it. Then double on the shitlist for how annoying they were about the KK saga that bit them in the ass.

4th goal of the night for Eriksson-Ek!

I mean...Ek, Boldy...this Wild team at one point will have to cash in on that talent. They have to be much better than what they are showing...

Toronto beat Tampa Bay in OT. 3 point lead now for the Division. They're finally going to finish 1st in the Atlantic.

That means WC1 plays Toronto. WC2 plays Washington.
