HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

It's a cycle until proven otherwise. From 2005 to 2019 those teams weren't bringing much of results. And I don't think it took 14 years for them to figure out they had no income taxes in their state.
A lot has changed since Covid. Canadian teams were already at a disadvantage as far as attracting players but it’s going to get worse and paying no state tax is only going to get more attractive if inflation keeps rising.

Will be interesting to see how PDB and Otter come back from this. I get Oettinger had a rough series but the lack of scoring, especially at 5v5 was a huge issue. Also the two goals he let in weren’t muffins. Not great but can’t really blame him for either.

Last year, he wasn’t good games 4 through 6 but the Stars only scored 4 goals.

Wasn’t a fan of PDB’s comments past game but I was more irritated with the way he pulled Oettinger out of the game. The pull after the time-out as well as the way he was calling him off the ice, like a child.

They don't. One of them will be gone. I think it will be PDB fired this summer.

Think Nill is smart enough to fire DeBoer after this. Keeping him after pulling off a stupid move like this in the most important game of the season and disrespecting your #1 goalie would be idiotic, and sadly Nill is one of the better GMs.

If for some reason Nill keeps DeBoer, we should be all over Oettinger and secure our #1 goalie of the future (even if it costs us Fowler).

I was just thinking about it. Corey Perry is now at his sixth finals in seven years. Thats a LOT of hockey played in just a few years and hes still going strong at 40 years old. Thats insane.

28 Stanley Cup games in his career. Barring injury or completely shitting the bed and getting scratched, he is guaranteed another 4 games. Already most among active players (Crosby is at 25) and he’ll pass Gretzky after this run at the minimum.

I think its 5 of the last 6 but your point still stands.

The only thing I'll add is that this year is the closest that he has been to a favourite in any of these 5 series, so maybe this is finally the year that he breaks through.

It would potentially mean one cup at the beginning of his career and one cup at the end.

Inflation is higher in the US than Canada. Within the US, Florida and Texas have a high inflation rate, 3rd and 5th respectively. In general inflation doesn't resonate much with people on a very high income.

That said, what I meant wasn't limited to Canada. The cycle right now is 4 teams in state with no income taxes have emerged as contenders and this is still at a stage where correlation does not imply causation. If we look back in time a bit no one was talking about taxes when Cali had 3 powerhouses... then their cores reached the end of its useful life... and 2 of those teams are heavy tankers at the moment. So until the "no taxes" teams manage to extend their natural lifespan at the top beyond what we have seen before, they are just part of the usual cycle you would expect to see in the league.

Remember that chicago was a massive powerhouse during that time too locking up 3 cups in 6 years.... another higher tax jurisdiction.

Renaud Lavoie on bpm this am

"The Panthers have unlimited recuperation budget"

Host; What is it exactly? Isn't every team the same?

"They keep their secret in house"

Ekblad was suspended 20 games for something related to recovery.

Sounds like the Habs being tired was not because they have less talent but because they aren't recovery maxxing
