HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

KK healthy scratch for Canes tonight…

Will Car buyout his contract this summer - last year of eligibility for 33% buyout multiplier for 25 & under players?
If they buy out his contract I’m sure he will find employment elsewhere. Maybe he can reinvent himself as a defensive centre.

Strange career.

What mistakes have you caught?
I remember two times it was a wrong photo. One of Charles Hudon photo was of another player and another ch player i can't remember. If you click on the photo it will cycle thru all the photos they have. Another time it was in the bio can't remember i think it was shoot L instead of shoot R or the other way around.

random, but I just had a vision of Marner in a either a Sabres or Wings jersey, and it seemed to fit in my head :dunno:
Any team that wants to make the playoffs would love to have a 100-point player, but they have to accept the fact that he won't play that way when the games get tougher.

The core 4 has the same mentality: produce in the regular season, get paid, and extend a middle finger to the fans come playoff time.

I think it also has to do with who you're surrounded by. I guarantee when Marner was on Team Canada surrounded by all the ultra competitive personalities in the room, it probably fueled him to compete hard. By contrast, being with Matthews probably makes you more low-key.

That's why just drafting the most talented players irrespective of their personality types doesn't always work out. I'd rather a player thats 80% of Marner but has the heart of a lion come playoff time than Marner himself (at least the leaf version of him). Anyways, he'll be happier in a market like Anaheim or Utah

Marner doesn't have to be THE guy with Team Canada and he did well in this context. Matthews was relied upon to be the guy with Team USA and he gave his usual playoffs like performance.

In the NHL both will be paid to be the guy no matter where they are and we know how they handle it by now.

Marner was underwhelming in the 4 nations but he did make the pass to McDavid for the OT winner so he got a pass. Jack Hughes and Marner were two guys who seemed like junior players going up against men.

The 3 young stars in Toronto are all about the contract, and neither of them took team-friendly deals to help their management group to surround them with help. If their mentality was centered around winning, we would have seen some sacrifice from the group. They play when they get paid, which is during the regular season, and golfing is more of a priority than the Stanley Cup.

You make a good point about the ideal version of Marner but he has proven he won't be that.

It's cool to see our young players taking contracts with the team in mind, they are showing leadership at a young age both on and off the ice. We are on the way to something good from our habs.

marner is a the best one from the core 4to have , but he needs not to be the one taking the team to the fight. put him on the pathers and he would become an elite playoff player.
tp me the biggest loser from the 4 and the real goat of the choke is mathews...with the floating nylander as the sidekick.... but hey if the leafs fall from the playoffs next year, as a habs fan, i surely wont complain.
