HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

They only needed one more win. Woll was crap especially in the final game. He could very well have got them one more win.
Woll was not crap, the panthers completely dominated the leafs in every facet, if anything woll was the only thing that kept them in the first half of that game. It's hilarious to think otherwise because florida had like 26 shot attempts in the first 10minutes. They also got absolutely blown out in the game five as well. Even in the first 2 games of the series the leafs barely won and didn't even look good. When florida woke up it was over for the leafs because when the chips are down they can't hang with Florida, simple as that and no goalie is changing it.

One could argue that you play differently as a team depending on who your back stop is.

Making the leafs play a little more aggressively with Stolarz than Woll? Maybe they play tentatively with Woll because they are just not as confident he will bail them out.

it sounds silly, but we've all experienced that in sports where your goalie isn't strong. You definitely are more anxious when you don't have possession of the play, and are a little more desperate to not make an error - which ironically caused you to likely make even more errors as you are overthinking.

I dont want to excuse the Leafs, but even a slightly lesser goalie can psyche out team play.
The leafs were weak all series, don't let the fact they went to game seven fool you, the leafs always go to game seven and always blow it because they are not a dominant team, they are a group that hangs around as long as they can and then collapses. Doesn't matter who is in the net for any of the last 10+ years because they blow it each time, how many goalie changes do they need before you understand that the goalie is not the issue?

Andy is right. Teams can easily play differently depending on the goaltender. They can also give up when they know their goaltender is a sieve. In Game 7 probably 2 of the 1st 3 Florida goals were weak. And then when they scored Woll whiffs again. Regarfless of the first 6 games they needed Stolarz in game 7.

Well, if Bobrovski had gone out instead of Stolarz would they have still won?

Yeah teams can play differently if they have a differnet goalie, the leafs have gone through probably half a dozen starting goalies and looked exactly the same and choked each time so safe to say it's not the goalie and this time wasnt the goalie either seeing as how they got out scored 12-2 in their last 2 loses. Unless Woll has 2 shutouts they lose those games anyways so yeah you're still wrong. Teams like the leafs that give up after 1 goal are simply not in the same league as florida.

Yeah probably, Bobrovsky wasn't responsible for the 12 goals scored on Toronto in their last 2 loses. He also wasnt responsible for Toronto getting absolutely dominated from game 3 onwards.
No. But he came up with a few huge saves in game seven. If some of those go in it's a completely different game.

None of this excuses Marner and company... but the margin of victory can be thin. If the Leafs score early on it's a completely different game. Take any team's starting goalie and there's a really good chance that they're going to lose.

So did Woll, whose to say Stolarz makes those saves? Maybe they lose even worse with Stolarz in net than Woll because they are both legitimate starters. The leafs have 2 starters and their TEAM got outplayed by Florida, they player like garbage from minute 1 and totally dominated. This was not one team letting in a pile of bad goals, this was a team getting hemmed in non stop and then finally collapsing after being given half a game to get their shit together.

You’re avoiding the point.

Draisaitl and McDavid are not human.

I remember thinking posters were insane when they claimed he was overpaid after his first contract, before he truly broke out. Then all that shit about Matthews not only being better than Draisaitl, but better than McDavid (LOL).

Draisaitl is in that conversation for second best forward in the league. The shortlist is small, it's basically him, MacKinnon and Barkov, with Kucherov close behind but Kuch neglects his defensive duties too much compared to those three.
