I just don't get how you change team like that.
I've seen "my" favorite Swedish team being relegated from the SHL twice, almost bankrupt, made some really puzzling hires and what not, but no way I'd change team.
Impossible. I just don't get it.

But he was incapable of assembling a complete team and incapable of negotiating contracts. If he learned from his mistakes or has someone else negotiate contracts he might be decent.
I think he is a case of Peter's principle, give him an AGM role and he'll do well.
He doen't have the strategic mind to be a successful GM

For all the appreciation of the Panthers, it's worth noting that many of their key players are assets acquired in large part because the teams that drafted or had them weren't patient enought or underappreciated their potential...

Vearhaghe
Bennett
Forsling
Reinhart

Even Tkachuk (who exploded in Calgary the year after Treliving forced a bridge on him rather than locking him up long term, which Tkachuk was open to).

All assets who are significantly better in their 25-30yr old seasons than they were at any point before 25....

Consider that the next time someone posts with certainty that Newhook, Strubble, Dach, Heineman et. "Will never be" strong top 6 or top 4 contributors ;)
I’ve always felt since their first run but obviously after their cup win last year that they are a good model of team construction. Development of home grown talent, timely trades and pickups of under appreciated assets like you mentioned and key “it’s time” trades. They got some pricey pieces, but nothing stupid crazy like the Leafs. They are young enough also to ride this a few more years.

They have some contracts ti figure out but being in a tax free state helps…

Hurricane didnt really play bad but they miss the grit needed to reach the Final
Can’t expect to be successful in playoffs when 90% of scoring is provided by 3-players: Aho, Jarvis & Svechnikov

Kotkaniemi big body & all hasn’t scored even one goal in his last 27 playoff games - 3G in 51 playoff games for Canes, scored 5 during Habs Cup run & 4G in 2020 Covid sequestered playoffs …. think about that for a moment…

Lack of playoff scoring isn’t something new for Canes, this is what year 7 of trying to take the “next step”?

Another Make Beliefs situation… f*ck that org, hope they crash & burn

For whatever reason, that team can't get it done when it matters. Personally I think it starts with Marner. He's toxic. Entitled, not accountable, blames the media and fans... it's never his fault. And he sucks so hard. He has to go. And unless Tavares takes a steep discount, he needs to be booted as well. Then they can start from there. But it's not going to be easy. They have no picks. They don't have many prospects... they'll have to use the UFA market and that means overpaying. They're not in a good spot right now.
Marner's situation reminds me of Huberdeau about 3 years ago with the Panthers. A big season with 115 pts, was dogshit in the POs. Florida traded him for Tkachuck and then, voila. It changed everything in Florida while Huberdeau struggles in Calgary.

I can see Marner doing really well in another city , In my opinion the real problem is Auston and his character flaws , you can't go to war with a guy with that attitude and demeanor in the post season. I mean the issue is clearly the culture from the top down but I don't like how Marner gets all the heat and Matthews gets to escape all criticism , this is the first year anybody is turning on him.

I can really see the leafs struggling without Marner's free 100 regular season points. He really drives play for that team and is the main puck carrier and QB in all situations for them. They aren't built like the panthers were when they traded huby for tkachuk. They also don't have BOB although Stolarz is really solid

NHL Canadian Teams Most Conference Final Appearances Since 1980:

Edmonton Oilers: 12

Montreal Canadiens: 8

Calgary Flames: 4

Toronto Maple Leafs: 4

Vancouver Canucks: 3

Ottawa Senators: 3

Winnipeg Jets: 1

Horrible news for the Islanders and all their young players, current and future.

Such a scourge on hockey.

One team's GM problem is another GM's opportunity :naughty: . That being said, I don't wish BargainBin on any fanbase. It always makes my blood boil thinking how he wasted Price's career without getting him any PPG forward.
