HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

Just let go of Marner and JT. Move Nylander up and still have a dominant first line. Their D is set for at least another year. Use the next two years to retool. True to get good picks in 2026/27, even if it means tanking for a year. Hope certain prospects (Cowen, etc) hits. Offer sheet teams in cap he'll with multiple RFA signings pending. Sign a few ufas next summer.

They still have a window. They just need to execute properly. It's not a walk in the park and takes a decent amount of luck.
Asset management point of view … if they see Marner and Nylander in a similar light:

- sign marner
- trade Nylander and Reilly, both for 1st + prospect
- let JT walk. He’s done.
- go nuts in free agency. Grit.

Keeps first line intact.
infuses team with grit and youth.

I don’t think Marner will be back, but I might try this if I were them. Just a big loss to let a player like that walk for nothing.

Reilly has 5 years left at 7.5 million. Who takes that contract?

Pretty sure Rogers will take steps to retain Marner, so he's only gone if he decide to walk.

Even some Habs fans giving Matthews the injury excuse?

What the hell am i reading. Everyone is injured at playoff time and somehow it always absolves Auston.

The guy was tied with Nico Mikkola in round two goals.

Oh come on......he has missed games consistently all year and it is no secret that he has something serious going on that has led to decreased production and the inability to shoot the puck like he normally can.

Why must you conjure up a tribal bias and use it to single out those who you anoint as blasphemers and heathens who dare venture outside of it even if the bias is clearly wrong.

Nobody is entirely letting the guy off of the hook but there is context to the story whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

But the drop in playoff production isn't new for him, he disappears when the tight checking starts and never goes to the net with the puck like the other superstars in the league. When I watch him, I see Max Pacioretty during his playoff time in Montreal, and I am convinced that even at 100 percent health, we would not see anything different from Matthews.
You're not wrong. I understand where you're coming from and I agree that he's always been underwhelming. But he has been hurt the past few years.

To me, he's too talented to move on from - but - his health is a big concern.

Assuming he can regain his health, I think if you put some different players on the team you can get more out of him. Marner on the other hand I see as being toxic and not somebody I'd want anything to do with.

I think Reilly needs to be moved. Not sure there would be any takers though
I agree I don't think his value is very high. He's not good enough to be your top PMD (they didn't even have him on PP1). So if you're building a team, he's not really worth it

Dude, if Darche ends up bring a bridemaid yet again, to freaking Bergy of all people, he might as well just give up and stay in Tampa until Brisebois is gone.
All the isles fans are begging for Darche. I told their board if MB gets hired, I'll do an objective write up for them. But I would feel pretty bad for them ngl

Yawn. Always injured when it matters and when blame is due

Goes back years, not 1, not2, not 3 not 4

"Typical EP post.".....lol

You mean fact driven and superior to your bias driven silliness. No worries buddy, I am used to people attacking informed opinion with nonsensical drivel, it is all over the place nowadays.

Just look at the garbage you just posted as Mathews being injured in the playoffs has not been the narrative every season but you of course prefer hyperbole over reality so carry on.........I won.t be dealing with you any longer friendo

Yeah guy who scored 69 goals is worthless, let's be honest any team that gets Matthews improves their chance to make the playoffs by a huge margin. I'm glad HuGo isn't drinking the haterade.

If there was no salary cap, OK. But in a salary cap league you can’t allocate a significant amount of $ to a guy who will help you make the playoffs but won’t help you win once in the playoffs.
