HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

Can we please put the BS myth to rest that Nylander is clutch? Zero points from Games 4-7 and a complete ghost. He's like the beer league player who floats and hangs out at the red line waiting for someone in the D-zone to send him on a breakaway.
I don't think there is a myth that Nylander is clutch, we are talking about a guy who skated the other way, leaving the puck behind, when he saw Armia coming at him back in 2021 playoffs (there was a gifs, no idea where it is now).

Nylander is the best playoffs performer out of the core 4 however, which says a lot.

Agree on everything but point 4. You can encourage but if you start yelling all yell is gonna break loose. Team mates gonna be thinking oh brother this guy stinks in their heads.
Another Game 7, after like nine years of futility, heartbreak, and pressure... I don’t think anyone is thinking about anything other than existential dread.

Being seen yelling at teammates is a non-factor — hockey fans love their grandstanding and soapboxes.

What is Steve Dangle saying tonight?

On the verge of sweet sweet tears. Makes me almost wish i was Mason Verger and could dab those tears into a Martini and drink it.

Even before this incident, because this isn't the first time, I've wondered what it must be like making ~1 mil or less and hearing the dude making near 11 mil screaming and crying at everyone else. Maybe if you weren't a greedy scumbag, you could have a 4-5 million dollar teammate in the place of that league minimum guy you're blaming.
It’s one thing to get yelled at by McDavid. He more than pulls his weight. Killing himself to win and leads by example. When he yells it commands attention because if he’s pulling his weight, I’d better pull mine.

Marner did absolutely nothing. He’s supposed to LEAD. Instead he’s screaming at guys on the bench.

Like, what’s the message here Mitch? Am I supposed to play like you? Am I supposed to avoid hits and give up on pucks? Am I supposed to keep to the outside of the slot and make perimeter plays?

It’s totally different to get yelled at by a guy who’s leading vs a guy who’s not.

If Marner is a périmètre player..Matthews is what?

Marner at least is better than him defensively...

So why Marner has all the critics....his numbers in playoffs are little bit better than Matthews

Cause he is 5.10?... and Mathews is a big soft 6.3...?

Both Marner and Mathews are perimeter players but Marner is easily worse in this regard. Both players play well defensively but again, Mathews has the edge there as he is a center and wins battles that Marner refuses to engage in.

Then you bring up Marner's slight statistical edge lol?

I never said that Mathews has not been a problem but you barge in with a Pearce Morgan level false equivalency. The fact that you did not even attempt to respond to my post in an honest attempt to engage in meaningful discourse and pivoted to an unrelated topic that I did not mention is very telling. I said that Marner should be the one to go because he is a UFA and he has made a fool of himself against Florida in both playoff meetings with childish/selfish outbursts on/around the bench. I live in Toronto and have watched every playoff game and way too many regular season games from these players but you carry on with the silly stat quotes.

And after all... you're my Joseph Wolllll :laugh::laugh:

That video needs the ‘after’ part.

There's no one i would want that they'd trade. Just worthless losers like Matthews and Rielly.
If Matthews were healthy I’d add him. But who the hell knows what’s going on with that wrist…

But they’d want a fortune for him and I wouldn’t pay the asking price.

Anyone on this board suggesting we should be in on his UFA signing needs an appointment with a mental health advocate, if you ask me. I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole, wearing a hazmat suit, using robotic arms.
I want nothing to do with him.

I would do Evans and a 4th for Matthews and a 2nd 2026 without hesitation.

Morgan..lol

In fact I was r not esponding to you directly in the sens that I always find strange that fans were always critical of Marner and not Matthews.

When you look to both players both deserve critics in my view and I am not sure that Matthews is better than
Marmer..that's all

Toronto won s...with both of them but you know what...I would sign Marner and trade Matthews if I was them cause it's unbelievable that they will loose Marner for nothing and also.... Matthews has a bigger value on the trade market even if Marner had a contract.

Now there is some good chance this Summer that they will loose Marner for nothing and they will still loose big games with Matthews

Carlo is about the only guy that might be plausible if they decide to rework their D. Maybe if they move on from Rielly and go after a big money defenceman they'd have some interest in Matheson with Carlo going the other way. Doubt it but it's basically the only plausible move I can think of that isn't just a depth scrub.

Aaaah.... (inhales deeply). Smells like true spring. Leafs chocked again. Who needs a Groundhog Day really?
It’s fair game to thrash each others’ team. But I have a blockage and I’m unable to go look at their board this time. It sucks too much for them.

And considering they just traded one of their best prospects & a 1st for Carlo, I doubt they'd move him already if only given the optics.

Crazy to think they are about to loose a 100pt player, in his prime, for nothing.

Shanahan is presiding over one of the biggest dumpster fires in NHL history.

And will Carlo ever live down that the most iconic moment this series will be remembered for in 25 years is him taking a puck right up his asshole?

My eye test says that he typically shows up. He was the one against Montreal that made me nervous, and he around a point per game in his career in games 4-7..... way further ahead than marner and matthews.

There's something about Nylander that rubs me the wrong way but it's not fair to let this particular post season define him. If marner and matthews kept up with him in general, they would not be in this mess.

Everyone knew what they had to do, we've known since 2021. Shanahan decided to fires his GM a few weeks removed from Marner's NMC kicking in and doomed themselves into let Marner walk to UFA status. It's a complete disaster class in asset management.

Also, someone needs to explain to me how Marner got an NMC when Rantanen didn't have any trade protection.
