HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

We don't have one now, so we're nicely on our way.
let's hope Smarty learned from our series against washington and realizes you can't win anything by neutering your punishers, the playoffs are f##king war compaired to reg.season.His inexperiance in the playoffs as a coach was pathetic, thanks JG/KH.

Wbghen you’re best players are soft and no push back, that’s what happens.

To have success, your best players/most talented has to play with a edge. If not, you’re f***ed in the playoffs. Like leafland.
they sure love their shiny toys in Toronto :deadhorse i can't stand florida but would still prefer Toronto to again have an epic failure, then the other shoe might drop ,Bergeven to run the loafs 🤣

Neither of those were upsets. They were evenly matched clubs.

Montreal vs Boston in 71 is a massive upset.
Montreal vs Boston in 2014 is a massive upset.

In both those cases we beat cup favourites with huge differences in the standings.

In '93, Montreal and Quebec were very close in the standings. Quebec was an up and coming team but hadn't found themselves yet. Only two point difference in the standings. The Canadiens were a 102 point team that year. Hardly an upset.

The Rangers were 11 points behind us in the standings. We were the favourites in that series.

Patrick Roy deserves every accolade for those cup runs. He was nothing short of phenomenal. But we got really lucky with the path we had. We didn't have to face the Oliers in 86 or the Pens in 93. We had a lot of luck.

Habs have a habit of upsetting Boston. Id argue the 2002 upset against Boston was much bigger than 2014. I'd also say 2004 was a bigger upset than 2014.

With Marner all but a given to bolt, I wonder if nostrils forces his way out this summer as well when all the ire of the fan base falls on his narrow shoulders.

From what I've been reading, they started to blame Matthews after last night. It's not just Marner anymore.
And once Marner bolt this off-season, all the fingers will be pointed at Matthews...

I agree with that. Imagine being on the fourth line fighting for ice time and literally fighting guys that want to kill you for league minimum.

and then this is your captain making ~14x more:

Makes blocking shots that much harder.

Even in 09 after fans jeered Price and it was clear that team just didn't have it, I don't recall jerseys being thrown or people leaving.
The Leafs were an up and coming can't miss team nine years ago. Since then they have lost in the most heartbreaking, specactular of ways.

I say this without any sarcasm intended.... I don't know how people can continue to be Leaf fans after that. And this year they looked like a different team too. To have THAT kind of a loss must be so demoralizing. I mean, I don't even rib my friends about it anymore. It'd be like kicking a toddler... it's not even funny anymore.

And the thing is... game six is tomorrow. They're still in this series. Any other team and we'd be sitting here saying that this could go seven. But the Leafs have failed so many times and then to lose like this... it just must shatter their fans.

Let's just say game 6 is very, very important for the future of this team.

That's the thing about the Oilers... no they haven't won. But all those guys can look themselves in the mirror. McDavid has done everything humanly possible to win. You can't say he hasn't lived up to his responsibilities.

The Leaf players just... go away. And I thought this year looked different - maybe it still will be - but last night was an embarrassment and a total call back to all those years of failure.

Similar. The only reason I felt like we had a better shot was because we had Price.

1971 is the greatest though. That was like beating the 86 Oilers. Bobby Orr was at his peak. Probably the biggest upset cup win of all time.

Boston scored 399 goals that year, lost only 13 games. This was an upset that ranks as one of the most unexpected in NHL history.

they are blaming Mitch of course

who is the whipping boy next year when he is gone

He has 1 shot in the last 3 games; and gave the puck to Florida for the back breaking 3rd goal last night.

Matthews is also getting it really hard over there.

Both deserved. They are perennial losers. They aren't scape goats, they are the literal problem.
