HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

I'm expecting the Leafs to give him his big contract to keep him.
If Make Beliefs lose this series - Shana-plan will not be resigned & a new Pres will be brought in … Marner’s not going to resign after knowing the org was ready to deal him

NYR will sign Marner & deal Panarin (last yr of contract)

I can see HuGo going after Panarin

I don't see Price as a money goalie. He was always good because that's what he was, but he never played red hot like Roy in 93' or Dryden in 71'.
Yes he did. He simply didn’t have the teams those other two did. Swap the clubs and Proce has multiple cups with them having none.

Not only that but he was more consistent in the playoffs than Roy was.
Price was elite, but I saw him more like a Brodeur in the playoffs.
That’s because you aren’t taking into account the teams he was on. At the Olympics he had a .970 save percentage. He was our best player by far.

He came within a game 7 OT goal of beating the eventual cup champs in 2011.

Huge upset against Boston in 2014.
Huge upset against the Pens in 2020.
Huge upsets against Toronto and Vegas in 2021.

And he did it with crap teams. Dryden upset some incredible teams but Roy never had an upset series win for us his entire time here.

Brodeur and Roy played behind some of the best defensive teams ever assembled. Price had garbage in front of him.

I love Chris Pronger. Totally agree that he’s exactly the kind of player you want in a postseason. But Carey Price was a series stealer. If he’d had even an average team we’d have won at least one cup.

Pretty random but I googled him and the rabbit hole came up with this Pronger interview that was a surprisingly enjoyable read. Looks like he’s a huge nerd, for hockey player standards at least.

Imagine the physical aspects of a Tom Wilson and combine it with great offensive and defensive play. Pronger was an absolute beast.

And he was mean and dirty too. Really scary dude to play against.

Woooh amigo, Roy definitely upset the nodicks in 93. I remember many favored Quebec, on top of falling behind by 2. Same with Rags in 86.

When the guy took his jersey off, my immediate thought:

Could Matthews be a good option as our 2nd line center?

Many years ago, for obvious reasons, a lot of my friends would praise Matthews and his ridiculous goals and how Suzuki was signed to a horrible contract. When we played around with trade scenarios, Suzuki plus Caufield++ for Matthews would be a joke (or Toronto).

I wonder now, how many would take that trade 1 for 1 today?

Even in 09 after fans jeered Price and it was clear that team just didn't have it, I don't recall jerseys being thrown or people leaving.
Dude those price teams were dog meat , we would 100% boo the living hell out of Matthews and Marner . In Montreal???? these guys would NOT have survived this long together

Toronto is an easy city to play in compared to here

This is a pretty interesting angle that fits with Gortons comment the other day about play driving wingers... I also remember Hughes saying at the TDL conference that they were talking to teams about players who didn't seem available...
