HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

He's a monster. Imagine a guy that big, that nasty, who also happens to be one of the best transition defenseman in the league and the best defensive defenseman in the playoffs. He was the main catalyst for three cup runs in 5 years. His peak post-lockout was as high if not higher than Lidstrom.
He also constantly got away with murder on the ice. The refs gave him the same veteran treatment they gave Weber and Chara.

I really hope the coaching staff works hard at protecting the slot better next year. Its been awful the last 4 years. Our goaltenders keep having to save high danger chances at too high a rate. Look at the second round of these playoffs, the slot is like trench warfare. Its not just about physicality, these players have incredible stick skills.

IMO, the best player post-lockout if you need to go far in a playoff run.

I'd take him over Sid and Connor for a playoff run.

In a sense, this means he was the true best player.

Draisaitls skating improvement from his draft year to now makes no sense at all. When he's healthy he's a 6'3" mammoth that skates like the wind. People don't talk about his skating because Edmonton has McDavid, but for such a big guy to be an 95th+ percentile skater is wild.

Watching Eichel play... What was Buffalo thinking man. He's such a complete player, better defensively than Suzuki and not at all scared of physical play. Way stronger than he looks too.

Come on now

McDavid has 112 points over the 237 goals scored by the Oilers in the last 4 playoffs, including this year. In 63 games. That's 47.25% of all goals scored by the Oilers. Only Lemieux and Gretzky have had this much sustained scoring in the playoffs and equivalent % of goals scored, while playing in a much more diluted league. McDavid is 66 points away from 200 playoff points, which only 4 players have done, and he's only 28. He has double that in just the last 4 playoffs, so he'll probably hit 200 points before he's 32.

In those 63 games since 2022, this is McDavid's all-strenght differencial in the playoffs:

He was on the ice for 64.5% of all goals scored in the playoffs by the Oilers since 2022. That's just crazy. Out of this world. Michael Jordan-esque.

Pronger was great, But McDavid is the ultimate ice tilter and play driver.

Price was great but he was not known to be better in the playoffs than he was in the RS.
Yes he was. His career playoff numbers are better than his regular season numbers are and he’s playing against better teams.

From 2011 onward he had a playoff save percentage of .924! If we scored three goals it was an auto win. He was an amazing playoff player.
Granted, his "normal" was crazy good, but not playoff Pronger good in my book.
Some players can steal you a game or two. Some can steal a series. And some, can steal multiple series. Price consistently stole us series we shouldn’t have won. He was an absolute money goalie.

I don't see Price as a money goalie. He was always good because that's what he was, but he never played red hot like Roy in 93' or Dryden in 71'.

Price was elite, but I saw him more like a Brodeur in the playoffs.

Sum results for the last 7 years of Price's career in the playoffs (30gp minimum; 2015 to 2021):

Price was the best playoffs goalie over the last 7 years of his career. He kinda split his career in half. First 7 years, great in the regular season, some struggles in the playoffs, while in the last 7 years, it was the opposite.

How does a former elite athlete like Marc Savard become such a slob...where is the self respect?
Might be on some medication, he looks like he has Cushing’s. Maybe we can get our resident neck expert to chime in…

In truth, Pronger is a D which is why I would pick him over Connor.

He was the best playoffs goalie overall but he was not a "red hot" goalie. Obviously, if you check on a longer timeframe, Price rises to the top. But for ONE playoff run, I would not choose him over Pronger.

That said, Price is near the top of my list too. We are splitting hairs.
