HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

So you can kick a puck into the net and it’ll be a good goal… so long as the goalie doesn’t bobble it? What a terrible call.

It is wild to me that Colorado had a Draisaitl type player and they traded him away for Necas. And Colorado management said they didn't want to have too much on three players but if you have a duo that's almost McDavid-Draisaitl level, who cares ? They might have given Dallas a cup with that move.

I agree it was a good goal but the ref explanation made no sense lol

It's not illegal to kick the puck. Players do it all the time. They kick it to their stick, to teammates as a pass & will even soccer it if they lose their stick. And, because kicking the puck isn't illegal it doesn't result in a stoppage in play.

It's only illegal to kick it into the net.

Refs said Petrovic kicked the puck to the front of the net. Helleybuck put it in himself as an own goal.

There was no reason to disallow the goal.

Especially with the cap going up in the next 2 years like it is.

It's a weird one for sure but after watching it again I get what they were saying. The puck was not going toward the net and it's Hellebuyck who tried to play the puck and deflected it behind him.

After watching the replay, I understand. They got it right

There were guys on the main board, who said Rantenen was nothing without Big Mac............well well

Petrovic played 6 NHL regular games in the last 6 years and here he is playing regular shift in the playoffs on the 3rd pairing with Bichsel forming a big physical duo while Montreal barely played their physical dmen and played Matheson more than they should.
Therefor, easily out in 5!

Friedman’s explanation on SN mirrors what you’re saying.

My interpretation would be that the puck is kicked *on goal* - whether or not it’s going directly into the net, I don’t think that putting the onus on the goalie in this situation to make a more ideal save on a broken play meets the intent of the rule. How would we rule kicking the puck from behind the net off a goalie’s pad/equipment and in? With this precedent, I’d feel inclined to say that type of play is a good goal and probably shouldn’t be.
