HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

KK was rated pretty high. But Zadina was the top pick at their spot.
Strangely, people defending the KK pick, while laughing at Zadina will ALWAYS bring JK development as a reason why it might not have worked...but will NEVER bring Zadina's development as why it might not have worked....Why?

The number 3 varied from list to list. McKenzie had BT 3rd on his final rankings. The only real global concensus was 1st and 2nd picks.

For example, while Zadina is still very much a consensus top-five pick, relative to the other prospects, five of 10 scouts surveyed by TSN ranked him outside their top five. Five scouts had him in the top five, including three of them at No. 3, but he had three 6’s, a 7 and a 9 as well. That’s a far cry from the mid-season polling, when all of Zadina’s marks came in between 2 and 4.

“I don’t think Zadina necessarily did anything negative as much as so many others stepped up their game,” a scout said.

Stone was so weak on that play. I mean he lost his board battle against Bouchard like if Bouchard was a 6'7 giant with titanic strength.

I thought Stone was complete crap. He looked old, slow & soft. He also kept trying to force passes into the slot with no lane, so was turning the puck over a lot. He was pretty useless.

Eichel meanwhile is being used as a defensive player against McDavid. He's done a decent job, but isn't scoring himself.

Vegas doesn't trust their bottom pairing either. Hague has taken a huge step backward this year. He was the D that stepped up on Perry for the OT game winning goal. He was only out because McNabb was injured.

Vegas lacks quality depth everywhere.

The only way Vegas can beat Edmonton is by letting them score first. Edmonton is too used to having to come back in every game they would be confused if they had the first lead lol

Kotkaniemi in terms of puck skills is really low tier in the NHL. Like, it's hard to be worse than him in that aspect.

On open ice with all the time in the world, he's fine. Like any other player in the NHL.

In closed areas, it's pretty bad.

I was never worried about his game away from the puck. It's his game with the puck that was the biggest obstacle for him. And it never got much better. The feet and the hands simply do not connect.

He might be a late bloomer à la Thompson, since it's mostly a technical issue. But that happens ever so often.
First game I watched of him I was concerned. 10 foot stick. Skating like Bambi. Bad pick.

The pre-draft highlights looked decent, but it's because he had all the room in the world in Liiga.

Even when most of this board was glazing him after his first year, I knew Armia was the one making him look decent in the first half of his rookie season.

Don't know. It could be in Zadina's case. Or they may both have had attitude problems. They were my first 2 picks in my keeper league in their draft year. Probably my worst season.

Look up kanes injury list this year. Multiple and bad. It’s unreal he’s playing

All that time off with very little rust to show (from what I’ve seen). Compare that to Matt Tkachuk right now, but tbf I’m not sure he’s healthy at all

There is no way the Leafs can sign both Marner and Knies.

They can. They have $27.7m. All their D & goalies are already signed for next year.

However, they only have 7 forwards signed.

Marner is at a $10.9m cap hit. He goes to $12m. They have $15.7m. Knies gets 7.7m. That leaves $8m. They sign 2 more forwards for an average of $2m leaving $6m.

Tavares has to sign for $5.25m leaving $750k in cap room.

They can go higher on Knies, but Marner & Knies are the priority not Tavares. He either signs a hometown discount or they don't sign him. Tavares is 35 soon. He's 7 years older than Marner and 12 years older than Knies. You don't prioritize an aging player like that.

Can they sign Knies to 9 million?

Really? Who?

As a poster that was bullish on JKO long after it was more popular to bash him, I don't think I ever saw or read anyone arguing what you suggest...

I was wrong about JKO figuring it out by now, and it looks unlikely he'll put it all together (though, not impossible)... But Zadina is literally out of the NHL with a career best year of 24pts, despite playing on two bottom feeder teams desperate for scoring.

Habs had a brutal development program in place when JKO was drafted. Was the RedWings development program as bad? I'm not so sure, but either way, Zadina, like JKO, certainly didn't suffer from not getting a shot.

Good god, I wish that we had drafted Knies. Everything that we could dream of Slafkovsky becoming in terms of style of play that allows him to elevate his game in the playoffs. Stud.

Edit: Autocorrect does not like Knies.

Need a FLA win or I might vomit in my mouth.
I hate Marchand and Bennett more than all the Leafs combined. The little rat has done more damage to the Habs in the last ten years than Toronto has in my lifetime.

One team is a miserable failure that hasn't been relevant save in the minds of its media members and fans for around fifty years.

The other is a collection of terrible human beings that won the cup last year.

The Leafs fans and media homerism are the biggest vomit inducing factor for me.
