As I’m always quick to comment on KK he continues to show good stuff below the dots at both ends but it just doesn’t amount to anything offensively. The lack of motor has to drive Rod completely nuts, especially knowing that spite is the only reason he has to deal with him for a decade

Kotkaniemi in terms of puck skills is really low tier in the NHL. Like, it's hard to be worse than him in that aspect.

On open ice with all the time in the world, he's fine. Like any other player in the NHL.

In closed areas, it's pretty bad.

I was never worried about his game away from the puck. It's his game with the puck that was the biggest obstacle for him. And it never got much better. The feet and the hands simply do not connect.

He might be a late bloomer à la Thompson, since it's mostly a technical issue. But that happens ever so often.
