They have a good defense this year. Yeah some of those contracts will eventually sucks but they are in a win now situation and Tanev is still good. He wont be by the end of the contract but for now he's solid. Same for OEL. Much better defense. Better forward depth. Teams can't only focus on stopping the top 4 anymore.

Pacioretty being the potential missing piece for the Leafs is very annoying for me, as one of the only Habs fans who still defends him and suggested signing him last summer. Guy even wears #67 which was a huge dagger to them during his time here. Gotta say if the Leafs take out the Panthers they're probably going to win it all. Other Eastern conference matchup is two teams that can't compete against the Atlantic. Dallas, if they get Miro back, would crush the Leafs. Otherwise the west is also filled with maybes. Scheifele and Morrissey out.. really seems like everything is going right for the Leafs for once. I think Tampa was a worse matchup for them than Florida, and I think we would have been a worse matchup than the Sens.

But without Patches getting that 3-2 goal they probably crumble and lose to the Sens in 7 like they always do.
