HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

I get it’s fun to bag on the Leafs, but those fuggers are legit this year. Solid goaltending and defence and whatever Berube is feeding them, they are eating it up.

Granted, Ottawa are young and inexperienced so I can’t say I’m too surprised. We should definitely be able to relate.
It's funny when they signed Stolarz last summer i posted that they finally got a quality backup for the young Woll and some posters were like no Stolarz is crap lol

5 points for Fowler.
Ducks fans gave me shit for calling that a steal when the trade first broke.

Fowler had literally two months of poor play after 14 years of consistency and they threw in the towel. Then he still got back to his career average in points by the end of the year.

Not sure how you expect a player like that to buy in when you've missed the playoffs 8 years in a row.

Watched the TNT feed of Vegas Minnesota, same style but what they both have in common is they have a much lower sound of the play on the ice compared to Canadian broadcast. I'd much rather hear the game on the ice than a bunch of windbags calling the game. If an option to only hear the on ice play and no commentary existed, I'd be down for that.

St-Louis got 2 top pairing dmen and a top 6 power forward without giving up a 1st round pick, and then you got Dvorak, Dach and Newhook.

SRC had that setup in the 2002 playoffs because of a labour dispute.

I loved it. It kind of felt like being at the game.

Too bad it's not an option. Most broadcast are not like they used to be. So much trivia and banter with not even calling the PBP often. From my experience, the worst is Mudryk with Corrarado with their endless stories,so distracting, I'll take RDS over them anytime.

I would have offer sheeted Holloway too but most of this board would have shit on it. (Only 9 points for a second round what the hell!) I wouldn't call Broberg or Fowler top pairing D, but top 4 sure. Parayko and Faulk play the most minutes on the Blues. Unfortunately LD isn't what we need. They also stole Buchnevich a few years ago, but can't really complain since Drury and Gorton won't trade with each other.

Blues are smart I guess, I would have blown it up but they said "the west has zero parity, just hold on and retool" the same way Winnipeg did. Everyone shat on re-signing Scheifele and Helle, now they won the president's trophy. Not easy to find a #1 C and #1 G in the draft, despite what tankers say. We picked top 5 three times and zero #1C's were there. Shame gettin' jiggy with it didn't fall to 5 or we didn't win the lottery. Even a month ago I would have said blow it up for them, they weren't close enough to the playoffs to warrant riding this core. Now, may as well, if you have too many pieces to sell effectively, it's quicker to add than subtract. Not gonna get a top 5 talent that way, but betting on getting top 5 talent bit Buffalo in the ass. They picked first in all the unimportant drafts without superstars and 2nd in the one that mattered.

I still think the Blues are riding an unsustainable high but having a 1C (Thomas) and a 1G (occasionally Binnington) is enough to make a wildcard spot. League is so weak now. Blues have enough guys who can theoretically pop off in the playoffs to go on a lucky run. If Dvorsky can eventually replace Schenn they've got an ok future. They're not going to be a top 5 team but sometimes the 8th best team wins the cup. They've got enough under 30 guys to stay in this range for five years if they can get some younger D. You can see they've been drafting for need though with the sheer number of D picks the past few years. Jiricek is a marginal OHL player though so don't expect much.

We should be poaching pro scouts from Washington and St. Louis. Two dead zone teams that turned it around without high draft picks. And fire whoever wanted Newhook.

What do Carolina need? They need Nikishin but if he wants out they're not really in a negotiating position since Russia doesn't respect the NHL. Probably another D and a +. Matheson+? Matheson probably fits their window and could probably be utilized better there as they already have Slavin eating the hard assignments. Matheson + we will pretend they owned us by offer sheeting Kotkaniemi and pay their owner 75 dollars to cover the expedited processing on Nikishin's visa?
