We'll probably take NYR cap dumps so he could sign there.

McDavid is way too much of an introvert to go to NYC.

McDavid will get close to maximum allowable per CBA which is 20% of cap.

Since he isn’t a permanent US resident, his bonus will get taxed as revenue in Canada & since Alberta has significantly lower tax than other provinces he’ll sign w Edm or dare I say Cgy if he remains in Canada.

$ wise, his potential earning in Alberta will be similar to even zero state tax locales in US - so if he bolts for America $ will not be the deciding factor

Im pretty sure money won't be his primary concern

The Oilers situation is simply tragic. Their fans on HF are generally not likeable, so I don't feel bad for them, but damn. You have the two top forwards in the league and you suck that much?

LOL.............Check that stat at the end of the season!!

Anderson has struggled, but has had more chances than a ton of players.

Drouin and his cronies were telling us he would get 70 pts with Mackinnon............he is currently on pace for 18 pts so they just miffed a little on that one!! LOL
Anyone with half a brain would realize JD wasn't ever going to warrant reps with Mackinnon. Even if he started PP1 over there Bednar wouldn't continue giving him ice like we did and they have far more talent.

Bedard on pace for 57 goals at 18 years old, playing with Ryan Donato and Foligno. Good chance in his prime Bedard breaks Gretzky 92 goal record.
Alex Ovechkin’s goal scoring peak was his 21 year old season. Same with Steven Stamkos. Goal scoring tends to peak very early and then taper off. Pretty sure he will score the most goals around 21-22 if the Hawks have a better team at that point which they should.

After 8 years of being the highest or close to highest pd player and no success he may be looking for something different. He may be willing to sign a 3-4 year deal in 8m range with a team that he thinks is ready to win or a Connor Mcdavid away from winning

NHLPA won't allow him to do that. They're trying to push salaries higher. He'll be under a lot of pressure to jump over the highest paid bar, and set a new one.

Matthews will likely set one this year. McDavid can get away with not taking max, but he'll jump over whatever Matthews sets. If Matthews is $15m then McDavid is getting $15.5m+.

Again the NHLPA has no say. They may put pressure on him but he can do whatever he wants. Other stars (not of his magnitude of course) have taken team friendly deals.

Matthews signed a 4 year extension in the summer for 13.25 million. It will make him the highest paid player in the league. Draisaitl can sign in the extension with the Oilers in this upcoming summer but if he doesn't he goes to UFA after next season

I forgot about that. Should have checked. McDavid won't go lower.

They probably do, but they cannot impose anything as it would be outside of the scope of their role. Also, it happens frequently in other sports. For the past few years, Tom Brady and Kevin Durant comes to mind quickly.

They , The NHLPA, may not like it but at the end of the day I don't think they can or would prevent him from signing in the $8M range. As the games biggest name you have some control.

Remember when Karyia and Selanne signed with the Avs on the cheap (real cheap for Karyia at 1.2M). They did not get their cup however.

They would have a lot and they might be able to put pressure/threaten the agent with retribution.
McDavid will do what he wants though. He would never take 8 mil if the going rate was 15 mil but he might take 11 or 12.

Honestly I think they probably had high hopes that Drouin could occasionally contribute on that top line because the Avs’ forward depth is a bit lacking compared to the rest of the west’s contenders

I will never count out Nate and Makar, but I think the Avs GM has some real work to do get back to the final

it should be (but won't) enough evidence for those who think that elite talent on its own = success, that this just isn't true when it comes to team sport. Especially in a team sport like hockey where an individual contributor can't regularly win games on their own.

edmonton hasn't been able to build a culture of excellence despite getting more elite young talent influx to work with in the past decade+ than any other team in the league... turns out that building that kind of culture is harder than it seems

The typical conclusion is they would put pressure to raise salaries, but I am not sure they actually do. It's pointless to have higher salaries when they don't get the full escrow back. Salaries will inevitably climb, always higher than the 50/50 mark, whether McDavid signs a big contract or not. They already have a benchmark with the Matthews contract anyway.
