This is just it. I wrote it down as a knower a couple of days ago already: Joe Thornton must not play in the dirty first unit anymore. John Tavares is OUR captain and one of the best players with the great shot, he should ALWAYS; ALWAYS like the italians say play on the first unit. Always.

Even the sharks knew that joe thornton is not anymore the best player he was. Even THEY, as a worse team than us knew it. They played joe only in the second PP unit for the last two years. He sometimes had some time on the first unit, but not a lot anymore.... they knew. They had a much worse team than us during these last two years.... so we still playing joe in the first unit. That right there mifriends, is not good coaching. Thats wrong. Awful in a long period of time.

Our first unit should have Marner, Simmonds, Matthews, Tavares and Rielly out there.
Second should have Nylander, Big Joey, Spezza and other fools.

But we WILL FAIL IN THE PLAYOFFS and I will GUARANTEE this if our first unit still has Joey there..... he's not anymore having it. Like he once had. He is slower and slaughtier. Like a toad. But still I love his game and what he brings, leadership and all. But not anymore on the first unit. Just like the shesharks knew too.... and they are WORSE THAN US. Think how deep that goes. That's a farce coaching job right there. Use our captain, one of the best players always, always on the first unit when it starts. That's key for life sire.

There is more wrong than our power play sire :)

One game left in March, played 13. Scored 38,gave up 36. If we lose to the Jets on wednesday we will be 7wins/7losses for march. 25% of the season was March and they weren’t a playoff team for the entire month.
We have more problems than powerplay.

Management knows we have two injured Goalies and play both and injure them further. Still soft. Slower and older to boot. Dubas just sits around watching it fold up again.

Thornton shouldn’t be on any power play in the league. Zero goals and 3 assists in last 15 games. He needs to sit. He’s done and getting 15 minutes a game. It’s B.S. He needs to be healthy scratched. Period he’s a good cheerleader apparently, so let him cheer lead. He’s not leading on the ice. Sick of the cozy narrative with a player. I don’t care who likes him.

Aside from the obvious goaltending issues, Matthews injury created a cascade of events that ruined the PP temporarily. When you’re shooting option is no longer a threat, the oppositions PK doesn’t have to focus on limiting his opportunities. They can clog the slot and take away passing lanes minimizing lateral movement, this is what Ottawa does really well.

Unfortunately JT hasn’t been a threat this season and we don’t have any booming shot from the point, so when Matthews is cold the PP won’t work.

This basically sums it up.
The league's leading goal scorer couldn't shoot the puck the way he wanted to during the entire month, that'll bring down the PP. I'm hoping they'll get it back now that he's healthy.

The big issue is obviously we don't have any other threats, which to me is kind of silly.

Nylander has a cannon of a shot. Maybe they should have ran PP1 through him while Matthews was hurt. He's the best shooter we have besides 34.

The experiment of having Thornton and Simmonds on and PP isn't working. Do what the Oilers/Caps do. Run PP1 as much as you can. Live and die with your best players.

Rielly at the point, Nylander/Matthews on their off wings, Tavares as the bumper/front of the net presence and Marner down low for the slot & back door pass.

PP2 still has some skill and can possibly score a few.

Brodie, Spezza, Galchekyuk, Kerfoot, Hyman.

? How much has Thornton played on our PP this year let alone the #1PP?

Anyone know of a site that has this information?

Thornton is top 5 for PP time this year. I think it’s time for that experiment to end. Move Spezza onto his spot on PP1 and promote Galchenyuk to PP2.

PP1
Spezza-Simmonds-Matthews
Marner-Rielly

PP2
Tavares-Hyman-Galchenyuk
Nylander-Brodie

I am surprised they are not using Tavares on the flanks more often on the PP TBH. He has a great shot so he can probably score from there if given the opportunity. The bumper doesn't really score all that often.

Part of the problem is they don’t get a ton of opportunities. It’s hard to get momentum when you don’t draw many power plays.

Other than that, the big dogs need to play the entire 2 min. There is no reason why Matthews and Marner don’t play the full powerplay

Load it up, put Marner low on his off wing. Move Nylander uptop with Rielly and Matthews.

Gives you shooters on both sides, low to high shot options (if you go strong side) and some downlow plays.

Just leave it long enough to work itself out and have Nylander gain the zone.

I've been saying it for a while. Leafs PP is just way too PREDICTIBLE. Shots always come from Matthews. Rielly hardly ever shoots.

They gotta mix it up OR change the personnel on the PP to keep opposition guessing.

Not sure they'd ever try it but I'd like to see a PP with all of Nylander/Matthews/Tavares in shooting positions up high in an umbrella style with Rielly and Marner at the net sides as set up guys for the other three.

It's way too predictable on PP 1 with Matthews as the only reasonable scoring threat and Marner/Rielly shooting way too much.

Shouldn't the coaching staff have them do something differently then? Plenty of good NHL PPs that don't have a Matthews on them.

I wonder if we could use Nylander’s silky puck skills to help transition the puck up the ice as the point man? He’s also got a shot so he could be a better trigger man than Rielly.

Definitely sire. Tavares is a Powerplay guy ...... he lives and breaths that stuff. Its very bad coaching if it happens for this period of time.............. I love keefe's gezame amd game book in general, but this is horribull stuff. San Jose even knew this, two seasons in a roll they played joey more in the second pp unit. And they are much worse than we are. Tavares wants those goals..... Joe doesn't. Joe also has game and leadership and he SHOULD play for us, but Tavares should play as a faster and better player everytime on the first pp unit period. Always, like the italians say with the accent.

Ive always liked the old, get a guy in front of the goalie, take point shots (when clear) and load the walls.

Makes ugly goals but Id rather score an ugly one then never score at all.

Are you suggesting 5 forwards?
