Last 3 games has been so terrible, so i dont know what to say. Losing to edmonton is embrassing. Crucial games coming up and without a miracle we are out. It feels bad admit it but after game against SJ we have played to worst hockey in this league if you compare lineups to the performance..

Nothing spells confidence more than being behind a team in the standings with less overall talent and Curtis McIlhinney as their goaltender.

Sebastian Aho is the best forward in the world and Teräväinen has U-20 WJC gold as trequartista so in terms of impact forwards Carolina has it over the more utilitarian Columbus.

Of course the Blue Jackets also benefit from having and handling a minor crisis going forward. The day does shine into a brush pile too.

I love Sebastian Aho but he is not the best forward in the world. I also didn’t realize winning a gold in the WJC mattered to nhl performance.

Let me re-phrase then since we have to be 100% technical.

If they keep 2 of those 3, or replace them with equally capable parts via trade or FA in the summer.

Again, false. That increases the odds but this team has the necessary pieces to make the playoffs. A player like Elvis might be an adequate replacement for Bob. We made the playoffs long before Panarin was acquired.

I understood where you were coming from, but again, I'm not sold on your assessment.

These geezers don't care about standings. That's the last thing they care about. They could care less about standings. They care about winning.

Not particularly worried about Philly. If they end up passing us, it likely means we finished really poorly and weren’t making the playoffs anyway. Difficult to see a situation where we finish both a) ahead of any of MTL/CAR/PITT; and b) behind Philly.

I agree, no reason to worry about a team that has been playing some of the best bockey since the first of the year. :sarcasm:

And why is it difficult to see your scenario? It would seem fairly plausible to finish ahead of one of them and have Philly in front of us and we'd be out of the playoffs. :dunno:

I mean, I’m certainly not going to be rooting for them against western conference teams. It’s definitely possible, just don’t think it’s particularly likely. As much as people are acting like the sky is falling, we’re closer to Carolina (when factoring in tiebreaker and games played) than Philly is to us. We’re 3.5 points ahead with a game in hand. If we play solid hockey (which we’ll probably need to to pass & stay ahead of the three currently in front of us), it’s hard to see Philly catching us. If we finish 9-7-1 (probably the bare minimum needed to finish ahead of PITT/MTL/CAR), Philly would have to go 11-4-1. It might even require something like 10-6-1 from us, and then Philly would have to go 12-3-1.

Obviously, Philly seems to be a team that enjoys going on long win streaks though. I’m just not particularly worried at the moment.

I have seen a bit of Aho living here in NC. He is a very good player, but best in the world? Better than Ovi, Kucherov, Crosby, McDavid, Draisaitl, Panarin, Kane, MacKinnon, Gaudreau, etc, etc? No he is not.

Nobody does it better than Aho whose vision and brick by brick approach can be compared even to offensive magician Granlund whom Sasha Barkov junior ranked as such over his own passing capability in the Sotshi olympics. I doubt there is anyone else in the world who has similar mind control over the game shift by shift. He is one with the play.

Aho and Nutivaara in the final shift of game seven for Kärpät in play-offs versus Tappara, deciding the fate of Kanada Chalice at the second overtime.

Jackets have the 9th hardest remaining schedule according to NHL.com

NHL strength of schedule for rest of 2018-19 season

On the plus side, we’re tied with Montreal, and Carolina has the third-toughest. (Philly’s is also tougher than ours, for those concerned about them.) I’d rather have it like it is than have us with only the 15th-toughest schedule but CAR/PITT/MTL all in the easiest 5 or something.

Nobody in The Metro scares me. If on, this team can compete with any of them.

These guys have to figure it out. Quickly...

The Jackets have not beaten the Pens since sometime around 1952. They get 2 more cracks at it in the next week. If they don't break this losing streak to the Pens then 1. The season is over and 2. I must disagree with your analysis of the Metro.

They dont scare me...can we beat them?...definitely have an issue.
This a mental barrier I suspect.

Only team what makes me fear is......Columbus. Team have everything what you need to succeed. 2x vezina winner, great offence, defence is over league average, management is good, coaches are good, fans are great, young players, senior players everything but still we suck.... Cant f***ing understand that

Based on current play I could see a 7 game losing streak coming up. I could also see the Jackets turning it around and going something like 5-2. They always do the unexpected so hold on to your hats.

Bottom line feeling is nothing better than WC2 & TB in Rd 1. And missing is a distinct possibility if they don't get their shit together soon.

This is the time to start piling up the points....because even a winning streak doesn't leapfrog a team in the standings.

Case in point: Boston is 13-0-4 in its last 17 games - and they still haven't gained a single point on Tampa.
The Coyotes, who were already kinda in the thick of the wild card race, won 6 in a row (before last night) - and still haven't gained a playoff spot.

Not gonna lie, I'm starting to get worried CBJ may not make it - it looks like they're *that* close, but the teams they're chasing could go winless in their next 10 games, and still get 10 points if those losses come in extra time.
They need to start playing good hockey NOW.
