Better core? Regardless of age and contracts.

Habs this isn't even close. Sens aren't better in any single one to one matchup. Habs clean sweep..

Knowing this poster and the way he listed this, this result was probably his intention. Maybe he got into an argument with another fan and wanted to prove him wrong?

Batherson, Cozens, Slafkovský... many guys missing, some guys coming up on both teams too (like Yakemchuk and Hage) plus no goalies...

Montreal will rightfully win this poll but there is elements to consider.

- Ottawa is now going through a semi-retool with Tkachuk departure and Giroux/Perron aging out

- The team couldn't progress under DJ Smith as they were unable to play 2-way hockey. It was either they scored at will and couldn't defend, or they were focusing on defense but wouldn't score enough. A transition eventually happened first by hiring Jacques Martin then under Travis Green. It worked so well that they were literally the 2nd best defensive team last season (see numbers below) while Montreal was more towards the bottom

Ranking per xGA/60 at 5v5 :

1- Vegas 2.27
2- Ottawa 2.32
8- Carolina 2.49
26- Montreal 2.85

Ranking per xGA/60 all strengths :

1- Vegas 2.72
2- Ottawa 2.82
4- Carolina 2.89
27- Montreal 3.46

The question is now what will happen when Montreal tries to play more defensive hockey? As of now, it helps their offensive numbers although Ottawa only scored 4 less goals this past season...

So the comparisons would look like this for now, problem is always that Montreal lacks good centers. And Ottawa still lacks a Top-6 forward to play with Stutzle.
