Player evaluations on here are always all over the place depending on who you are talking too. These young guys are also maturing & starting to play the right way, I expect them to continue to be better but it's a long season & there are always ebbs & flows.
Ok. fine. To be clear..I think we will need Tkachuk to bring his better game to the forefront more consistently . I think that is true for a lot of young players and I am not singling him out in that regard. Ebbs and flows... I am suggesting its more than that. Its finding a way to be more consistent. If he can improve his consistency it will have a greater impact on the team than any other single forward. Ebbs and Flows where the ebbs go somewhere for 5 or 6 games can't happen in the playoffs or you won't last too long. Its part of what turns a good young team into a playoff team.
As the team matures .. we should expect that...and its a work in progress. Brady as the young leader that he is has to find a way to collect his emotions and energy more often. Do you think Brady needs some form of defense of that?

How many games played until the player is not a young guy? Is Chabot a young guy, that's why his mistakes cost the team games? If a player with 10 games xp makes the playoffs, is he no longer a young guy....even if he's 18?

No, I think he already is doing all that, the fact that he isn't scoring doesn't mean anything since he is still getting lots of chances & they are not going in at the moment. I disagree his game has slipped lately or at anytime. I see him giving 100% all the time. As I said it's not easy constantly fighting off 200 lbs plus defencemen up & down the ice, then leading the team in hits & fights.

When it comes to the playoffs I think it will be easy for them to get up for playoff games after being out for so long, but it's a team game & everyone will need to rise to the occasion especially goaltending. If there is one thing we learned in the past it's that goaltending has cost us playoff series.

Ok so regardless of scoring .. which I did not mention.. you feel his effort , attention to detail is consistent.. with difficult to discern ebbs and flows? I think there are big drop offs in his game from his best to his worst and he needs to reduce the amount his game drops off and the number of games in a row it drops off.

We know players can have a positive impact on games without the need to score to get them recognition.

Tkachuk needs some coaching to make him play better without the puck in our own DZone. He seems to wander about leaving his man open. He also tries to get the puck but puts himself at risk by reaching thus allowing his man to get by him. Looks like Spezza sometimes when he does that.

The game has changed since Spezza & when you say wander I see a player going to the other blue line as he is coached to do because every team does that now including in junior & that opens up a lane for the defenceman to get the puck out of the D-Zone.

You can see it's a practised play because it goes to Tkachuk & Tkachuk usually with a large defencemen hanging off his back gets the puck to a teammate breaking out of their zone. These guys are not doing things on their own they are executing on plays designed by the coaching staff as a release valve to get the puck out of their zone. He's not the only one to do it either several of them do it depending on where the puck is in the d-zone. Pastrnac was doing it for the Bruins, the exact same play.

What's wild to me is that Boucher, who most likely remember as some the best defensive hockey we've played in about a decade with the 2016-17 team had us at 18th in the league in xGA/60.

he had a shitty team though, ranked it probably looks like

Karlsson
Sanderson
Zub
Chabot
Methot
Ceci
Phaneuf

same for the forward core
