People were talking about how we have no depth or they are no good & here we are in a wild card spot due mostly to good goaltending which has been Ottawa's Achilles heal for a few yrs & much improved defensive play. I think with Yakemchuk on the back end next season scoring from the defence should also go up.

I have been talking about lack of offense for a while. Not just these past 2 games.

Several injuries? Perron is the only one out that is supposed to be a forward regular, looool. Only Ullmark as well. JBD/Hamonic have been outplayed.

A more reasonable assumption is because Highmore and 4th line have more legs underneath them and therefore they gave the others extra jolt.

Reinhart. Gregor. Perron.

Healthy, Highmore is in Belleville. In game, coach is line juggling.

Well, Gregor as well fwiw.

I’m not sure there’s a trade of significance anytime soon though which might be disappointing for those prone to unbridled optimism

Gregor was scratched a couple times. Wasn't a sure bet regular in coach's eyes(even tho I think he is). That's not the point. It isn't about HIGHMORE specifically playing top line. The point is a belleville call-up guy was playing top line.

A lot of our guys have been on offensive dry spell. Before last 2 games, the previous 12's GF output was around 2.1.

I am sure it was more to do with fresh legs than anything, but the offensive dry spell for few of our forwards is something to keep eye on and hopefully adjustments made(coaching strategies or otherwise).
 
After the last two weekends of crazy-ass scheduled back-to-backs with sometimes less than 24 hours between games you'd think we'd be over that shit......but no, next weekend we get TO on Saturday at 7PM with Utah 22 hours later at 5PM. All this after a 9 game road trip to start the year.

Like, what the f*** man.

But it says so much about where this team is at that they have managed to come out of it in the first WC spot, only 5 points back from Florida with a game in hand. And once we get back from the 4 Nations bullshit break, we have one of the easiest schedules in the league.

How can we not feel incredibly positive about where this team is going at this point?

The point is your tired. You're playing 19 hours after a franchise highlight emotional win and you traveled. Energy comes and goes.

But we won.

We won a game where statistically we were at a significant disadvantage

League hates us. What else is new. Do you think Vegas gets even one of these less than 24 hour back to backs with travel? Let alone multiple?

We shall see if that is true. I have my doubts.
His games played earlier do not support that view (9 games played, 0 points, -4).
He is also turning 37 in May which raises doubts about his remaining career in the NHL.

HOWEVER, I hope he is the top 6 and PP forward we need.

They bend but they don't break & they don't quit which is extremely important & an improvement from past yrs. I agree. If the team plays a consistent strong defensive game without the puck in all 3 zones, forechecking to reduce D zone time & create scoring opportunities, back checking with hustle and strong defensive play in our D Zone, they will start to win low-scoring games and hopefully turn into a SC contending team. The goaltending seems to have been significantly improved with Ullmark and Merilainen. A few more roster adjustments and we just might become an SC contender.
