GDT: Ottawa Senators at Columbus Blue Jackets - 7PM - TSN5 / RDS - This is Jacket Weather Edition

The sens play 4 games at home including games against Chicago and Philly. Also carolina will be locked into a spot on the road in the last game of the season. Montreal is 3 points back and the sens have the tie breaker. They would have to run the table and Ottawa would have to only get 4 points. Not very likely.

And if this improbable series of events does happen I'd rather play Washington than Tampa. So it doesn't really matter.

Yup, to heck with running the batteries low to defend a WC1 slot. Rested and healthy, as much as possible, is better.

Honestly, I'm sitting Giroux until game 1 of the opening series, and alternating days off for Zub and Jensen. Hopefully Cousins can get back in for a couple of these last games and I don't know what MacEwan's status is but I'd rather see a 4th line of Highmore - Cousins - MacEwan than what we have now (don't think Crookshank can play in playoffs, can he?). Gaudette is Gaud-awful.

Caps have protas and Thompson injured as well. Ovechkin despite his historic feat really isn't the player he once was either. I think ovie gets exposed in the playoffs.

You have to wonder how much Ovie has drained the tank in the goal chase, though he is likely to cruise for the rest of the season.

Ideally, I'd rest all of our first line: Brady, Timmy, Giroux. I'd also rest Pinto, Jensen, Zub, Ullmark.

But practically speaking I realize this isn't possible for cap reasons etc.

If the Habs pass us and face the Leafs. Who the hell do you cheer for?

The refs? Today I was actually thinking about making a poll about it. I wonder who posters on this board would vote for but I think Habs would win because people hate the Leafs even more due to the Ontario factor... The only good thing is the certainty that one would be eliminated so I guess that wouldn't be a 100% bad thing

It all depends on our goaltenders. If they make the saves we will have a strong series. If they don't, we likely won't.

My hope is the Ullmark factor. The guy has some of the better stats among goalies of the last 5-6 years... so if he can get in the zone like he was in December (7-0-1, 1.30 GAA, 0.956 SV%), anything can happen!

MacEwen seems to be out of favour with the coaching staff and GM.
When he was up last time, he seemed to be more energetic, faster on the forecheck and more willing to fight. I wish we had a better player to be the "policeman" on our team than him.

MacEwen is hurt. Dave Bell has ruled him out for their regular season.

Listen at the 5 minute mark - Bell: We'd love to get some help but they're all doing too well at the Jr. level

A hot goaltender with a save percentage of 0.956 with the skaters limiting the opponent to 30 shots against per game could lead to a long playoff run. We need the skaters to play a solid 200 foot game, forechecking to keep the play in the other team's D zone, back checking with pressure on the puck carrier to force turnovers, and covering their man in our D zone. The Senators have played some games that way but often lapse into their old bad habits learned under DJ. Must also stay out the penalty box too. Getting the PP to score a few goals would help immensely too. That is a lot to ask for.
