It used to be that they were allowed one free challenge but some coaches misused to slow down the game. The rule was changed and now if you lose you get a penalty. We all hate it when we lose the challenge< Remember the last one when it was a nudge across the blue line that was declared a free puck even though a guy skated in offside maybe this was a similar case since he did fumble the puck off his stick as he crossed the line. Strange but in the CFL you can kick the ball ahead of yourself 1 yard , recover it and you get a 1st down. Weird stuff in every league.

Penalize the coaches who use it in that way. If it's a legitimate challenge for a play, I don't see why they need to complicate things.

It was as ticky-tack of a call as you'll see all season. Split second adjustment in close, and Batherson doesn't even pull on the Avs player. This happens 100 times a night.
